Mustang vs. E46 M3

A little story for a lovely Monday back at work or school. This race occured last summer. At the time (for those who don't know), I owned a 1989 5.0L Mustang notch, viper blue, pony wheels, engine rebuilt/bored, all bolt-ons, stock gearing at the time. I heard there was an E46 M3 around, but I had never seen it. I was at a KFC one day and saw it pull in. This was and is one of the most gorgeous cars I have ever seen. It is the dark silver, slight tint, front carbon fiber lip, 19" BBS wheels, he had an intake and something exhaust (quad tips which tilt upwards) and it is an SMG. I mean absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I asked him if I could take a picture of his car and he said sure. I told him to watch for a blue Mustang sometime and he said he would.

A couple of weeks later I washed up the car and went for a cruise. As I'm going by this gas station, I see him and a buddy pulling out of the car wash, so I quickly pulled in and whipped around to follow him. As I shift to second, I hear him hit it, so I know he wants to play. Although I am positive I will lose, I follow because hey, losing can be fun. We cruise for a while, and come to a stop sign where we're turning right onto a long stretch. He comes out slowly and waits for me to come through and he comes onto it. I do the same, but as I'm halfway through second he's already into third. He pulls some, and we slow down. Anyway, we come up to a long sweeping turn that goes onto the highway. I was hoping he'd take it easy around the turn, lest I never see him again, and he did. We finished the turn, and I went into second, and so did he. Maxed out second, into third, and he was losing me. Into fourth, and bye bye, so I let off, realizing I would never catch him. I thought that was fun, but I had another 15 minute drive to the next exit. I drive for a few minutes, and come around this turn, and there he is sitting on the side of the highway with his signal light on. I pass him and look in my rearview mirror, and he pulls out as soon as I pass. YEA. He gets stuck behind a car, and when the car finally pulls in, I came onto the stang, he did the same, up a hill. I am in Canada and my speedometer is registered for 200km/h, roughly 120mph. I take third to about 107mph, and go into fourth. Up the hill, he was gaining some but not alot. Shortly after I went into fourth, my needle was pointing straight down (one of the few times I have done this). He eventually pulled even with me once we got to level ground, and I glanced over and both them were grinning ear to ear, and both giving me thumbs up. I, scared to death, returned the thumbs up, and they left me standing still.

I came down to legal speeds, and drove to the next town, where I met up with them. We all exchanged handshakes, and he told me I was doing 150mph when they were beside me. They continued to their limiter at 271km/h (around 165?mph). He commented over and over how fast the Mustang was, and let me sit in his car and play with the paddle shifter :iceslolan . All in all, it was unbelievable, the most fun race ever for me. I've seen him once since, we hung out for a while, and then he left me in smoke when we left. I love it. I want to race him in the VR4 (much the same result, I'm sure). It is a gorgeous car, I hope I can own one someday. Sorry for such a long story, but hopefully you enjoy. It was a great time! :bigthumb:

Nice loss, those are the ones that you are happy to admit defeat. It is always nice to find people with fast cars that are willing to play.

On a side note, the owner is obviously well off, but not stuck up about his car. He is very complemtary of my cars, and other "nice" or "quick" cars as well. So it is nice to lose one like that. I'd be happy to lose to his 470hp Firebird as well, which he just finished building.

Sounds like a story-in-the-making to me

Man its a good week for bimmers :ylsuper: Sounds like the guy was cool though, letting you play with the paddle shifters and all lol. And it sounds like you gave him a run for his money.

I've been to 150 twice...once in the VR4 and once in the Stang. I was more scared in the Mitsu though which is weird. Maybe because at 150 in the Stang, I was getting passed. And the owner is the man.

Awesome guy, great race too...it's not always easy to find a guy that chill who has money. So is your VR-4 faster, or your old 5.0 mustang?

BTW, I have never been passed in a race when at 150 mph.... ;)
