i've been told to keep it cost effective and to drive it daily
to keep the hp below 350
but a goal of mine is 400
ok ok...
i'm a noob to the tuning and modding thing.
i'm looking at cars right now... and i'm definatly going with the ecliplse tubo... i'm definatly going to mod
i'm looking for tips or some advice.
if this car can be streetable with that much power
how much maintenance am i looking at with up keep.
can i keep that car reliable at that lvl
if not what is a reliable lvl that will still make an impressive 1/4 time

i think its okay as long as you dont drive hard. 99% of ppl need nothing more than an EvoIII16G. Combined with a good launching platform the GSX offers, you'll have a respectable supercar thats a daily driver. Plus for everyday driving, u want something that doesnt lag too much...the 20G etc take a long time to spool up.

The 20g's and 50 trims don't take long to spool up, maybe 500-700 rpm's more than the evo316g. Of course this is only possible with some porting and a proper setup. But still, 500 rpm more is not that bad AT ALL when you consider the pull that the 20g's and 50 trims have over the evo3!! :naughty:

20g does take a while to spool if you dont have the mods to support it. My cuzins Tsi AWD is runnin fine with the Evo3 Turbo, BC, intercooler pipings, polished headers, and 3 inch cat-to-exhaust. He says he's pushing 350 at all wheels at 16 psi...but i was a little suprised by that much power gain with under $1,000 to spend..

Yes, but every time you daily drive a car with that much power, you risk breaking something or having one of the critical performance parts fail. A 20g or a 50 trim would be required to reach 400 hp within that budget, although many people are at or around 350-375 hp on the Evo III 16g.
Evo III 16g+ nitrous = low 12s, maybe 11s, and 400+hp. Too bad you can't use nitrous on the street :p
dude are you serious?? bush doesnt know what he's talking about...and how many times has kerry said one thing and then later said the COMPLETE OPPOSITE!!?? about 5 times...that leads me to believe that kerry is the one that doesnt know what the hell he is talking about...but anyways...

16 psi will not make 350 whp on a 2 liter. Most people are over 20 psi and on race gas when they get to the 350 whp mark.
20g doesnt lag at all in my humble opinion. I had 25 psi on pump gas at 3700 rpm or so. Thats like 300 more than a 16g. Can you feel the difference? Sure. Does it really matter once it spools up and puts you in the back seat? No ;) I think a TDO6h 20g is great for 400 whp (I did it on pump gas), and a 50 trim will work as well but you'll need one of the hybrid models if you want to bolt it on and stay within that budget.
The problem with budgets is it doesnt take a lot of money to make the car fast or powerful, it takes money to keep it together. You'll want a center diff at the least, a good clutch, etc, and that eats into the power parts budget. But it certainly can be done.

Well, I was blowing up center diffs on the T25 if that makes you feel any better  I raced at the track every week though, my car gets worked hard.

perhaps i should rephrase...
what i'm really looking for is the best. most reliable. as this is going to be my car also for getting to school also. safe. and moderatly low maintence way to 11s.

If you want low maintence get a camaro ss or z28, they are faster and doesnt take much to go 11's

ok, mabey mid to high 12's would jive with that. but not 11's. that takes dedicated tuning and $$. you can get a GSX into the 12's on a relatively restricted budget though. but you are going to break things on that budget because you didn't do it right.
buy a GST and have fun from there. with just the basic bolt on's you can be making ''fun'' power. ''fun'' being defined as going really quick from stoplight to stoplight, getting on the freeway rather quickly, and smoking 90% of the ''raced/riced'' honduh/nissan/cavilier's out there. then you can get sic in the head from there.
my guess is [no offense] that you have never been in a car that fast and have no idea that things like traffic greatly impede very fast cars. that is why 350hp as a daily driver gets thrown around. it is faily simple to maintain, drive, and tune, and it is a fair compromise on gas. getting to 400hp is a bitch to put it simply. especialy on pump gas. the mechanical support and tuning is varsity level.

i'm more concerned with the having it done well and reliable before hitting up the power.
i know i can step toward the power.
I'm one that does things right.. i'm not going to throw some stuff together then see what happens when i push it as hard as i can.
a friend of mine was telling me what 400 would take and it does seem like much. if it can't use regular gas thats pushing things for me.
i don't have a problem with traffic so much.. i dont' need to speed around everywhere. i'm pretty controlled on the road.
by fast i think your meaning like a 12sec car fast. thats a no. but i have some experience with cameros and stangs (shhhh).
what makes the gst a better choice than the gsx?
in terms of "fun fast"
i could settle for 12s if thats more realistic.
thats what i'm trying to find out what are realistic numbers.

For a beginner to ask for 400whp and reliability isn't happening. 11's either. I would do a cheap 14b or 16g setup and see if you want to go from there. You can get a 16g into the 12's, and if you're ready for breaking things, save up and go bigger.

Go to DSMTuners.com and also http://jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/Stages/2g_go_faster_recipe.htm for some info.
Dont let anyone tell you bs about eclipses either and try to talk you out of getting one. They dont know what the fuk they're talking about.

My Garret 60 trim takes a crap load longer to spool up then my old T-25. I still haven't gotten used to all this lagg and I have had this turbo on for about 3 weeks now. :disappoin

Thats a big jump :) Lag is over-rated, just downshift. My T67 lags, but I can deal with it when power comes on and beats the donkey biscuits out of who ever is next to me...

I know you have a lot of questions... try to read the FAQ sites more than turn your thread into a Q&A.

i think the idea of a 12 sec. car is what you are looking for....how many times have we seen posts where guys are trying to sqeek those last few ponies out and are spending 100's of $'s to do it. a 12 sec. street car is pretty fast. you might want to start there. if you want cheap...find a 1g gsx like i did. then go to dsmtuners.com they have a complete build up guide that may serve you well. last but no least- research, research, research. make a budget and try to find the parts you want, after you research, set a price point that you want to spend and keep looking until you find exactly what you are looking for at or lower than the $ you have set aside for that part. i have $3100 in my car, including the price of the car, and am running mid 13 sec. passes. it's alot of fun! hope this helps!
