Replacing air injection reactor pipes

Hi,

My county has decided to reinstate emissions inspections, :disappoin so I have to replace the driver's side a.i.r. pipes, since I have them taped up, since there is a hole rotted out in the main pipe and the inspection mech probably won't like that.

I notice each pipelet has its own bolt around it that goes into the exhaust manifold. How can I get these old rusty bolts out of the exh man without breaking something? Should I do it cold, warm, or hot ?

You won't believe this, but they'll come out pretty easy. Mine did.

Get a can of PB Blaster (Auto Zone, etc).

Warm the engine up, spray it directly on the offending nuts.

Shut the engine off, let it cool.

Shoot 'em again.

Wait about 30 minutes, and then take them off.

Let us know how it went.

Are you in N.Y. ? Albany has now screwed the rest of the state by starting emission testing statewide. Funny how there has been no press on it, I guess they want to make sure you don't get your car inspected before it starts

I was just checking to see if I could fit a wrench onto the bolts in the tight spoace, and while I was there, I tried to move the bolt, on a warm exhaust manifold, and 2 of them tirned without any penetrant applied ! Shocked but happy. :smile: Hoping the other 2 bolts turn off as easily.

Make sure you put some anti-sieze compound on the threads.
