Twisty race vs prelude

I was out for a cruise in the mountains with my new tires and I got to the intersection at the peak and decided to stop in at the parking lot. Up there a guy was parked in a newer prelude, no idea what year because I don't know much about them.

Anyway, the guy asked me if I wanted to race down the hill with him. I asked, "are you freaking kidding me?" I've never had anyone ask me to race in the hills before so needless to say I was a little bit surprised. After talking to him about a little bit and explaining that my car is stock I decided to give it a shot.

We lined up at a stop sign at the top with me in the wrong lane (after that we stayed in our lane) and took off on three honks. I got the jump on him off the launch but didnt manage to get enough ahead to pull in front for the first turn. We hit the first turn at about 40-45 and kept accelerating from there.

As a note about the road, the top of it is pretty twisty with two wide hairpins and a bunch of long smooth sweeping turns. Its a total of about 7 miles. As we got to the first semi straight section I managed to come out of the turn faster than him and was pulling up a little. Still no room to pass so I kept following.

We got to the first hairpin, which is narrower and sharpens quickly towards the end. Guess he didn't know that very well and he shot around the corner into the oncoming lane. I took a chance and gunned it and managed to get a nose on him on the inside lane. I pulled ahead of him and jammed down the rest of the hill.

Although he kept pulling a little bit on me each straight section, he was no match in the turns. Every time I came out of one he was further and further behind until finally I couldn't see his headlights anymore. I lost him at somewhere around the four mile mark and just cruised down the rest of the hill at my normal speed, guess he'd given up chasing.

After I got down he came up behind me a minute or two later and pulled up at a light. He rolled down his window and said, "man you can drive that thing, thanks for that it was fun" or something to that effect. Lemme tell you, nothing makes you feel like having someone tell you how well you drive :)

nice, what kinda car you drive again?

When our group is in the mountains, there is no passing. A safety issue really. We're not 'racing' we're just driving faster than normal as a group.

Although we do pass each other, when it's safe. And the person up front gives the OK.

Sounds like fun, keep it safe on the back roads.

Sounds like you had some fun dude, stoplight races bore me.

Get some handling mods and drop in a sr20det ala redneck, in your bmw, and challenge him again... :iceslolan

Why to represent! http://bobcrews.homestead.com/files/bmwsmallroundelrotate.gif BMW NAZI Motto: Fast in a line faster in the curves :evillol:

I give you a lot of props for beating him, seeing as his car was probably faster then yours (E's run mid/high 16s i think) So your win was all skill.

Like everyone said though keep it safe.

Man you guys who said you wouldnt do that are crazy. Driving fast in the Mountains is so fun. As long as your know your car well, and the streets are not wet, it is a blast. It really requires a lot more skill than drag racing.

Nope, I have no idea. Its an 18 year old car but I just got new tires saturday. Bridgestone Potenzas 195/65/14s. They ride really nice, grippy and quiet.
