Audiobahn Immortal for SPL

I am considering selling my current subs, after finding out they wont fit into the trunk of my stang, and thinking of stepping up a level. I want something that will have decent SQ, but Very high SPL. I saw a link to the audiobahn Immortal series, that handle 2000w RMS. It comes at a low price (on ebay) for that powereful of a sub. I was thinking instead of two subs (like my current setup) I would have just one, and put it in a snail shell box by powered4sound. I know alot of people are anti-audiobahn *im not sure why* however not alot of people around here have them, so that would give me a unique factor. I think that sub + the snail shell would pound the hell out of most the people around here. I think my closest competition would be a kid who has 3 L7 12's in his trunk, and anouther who has 2 Rockford Fosgate Stage 3 12's. But whatever.... My next question is what amp would be recomended for this. I would like to also have an audiobahn amp, but im open. I know hai suggested a boss amp with this sub, but I heard boss sucks big time with car audio.
Also for anyone who knows rates on used subs, How much do you think I would get for my current subs, sold locally....
I have 2 15" MTX Thunder6000 *both look decent except for a scratch on the surface of one, which is not deep just surface* and a 600 watt pioneer amp.
Thanks for help.

the mtx has 750 rms handling as compared to 2000. Is there something im missing? I thought the more watts...the louder.
BTW: im not the most knowledgable, so if I am sounding retarded...i just might be.

sure, if the sub can actually handle the power, those audiobahns can't

so the sub is rated at 2000w, but would actually die under that wattage? Kinda retarded advertising dont you say?

Yes. Audiobahn overrates quite a bit

yep but watts are no where near everything. Xmax is one of the most important features (which the new immortals lack) I've put together 300 watt systems which out did 1500 watt systems by far. Its all in the install. Also what year mustang do you have? I got one too. If you want it to be loud and that's your main concern look into getting some subd from DD (digital designs). Also one immortal will come no where near beating 3 l7 12's, however that is saying they were both good installs.

Well I know I am not going to beat the l7s (and yes it was a good install, done professionally with lots of customs), and im not really into competition, I just want the loudest bang for myself. I only want one sub (12") and I want it in a snail shell box.
On a second note I dont have the stang yet, im still tooling in my current car. But the new sub would be for the stang.
What do you guys recomend for SPL that would be around the same price as the immortal, if not alil more.

When it comes to pure output, xmax really doesn't mean anything, The xmech and the BL curve is really what's important. Xmax does play a big part in how loud the sub can get while still sounding good though.
how much is the immortal?

I actually like the immortal, but I was recommending the 9500 cause it is the loudest sub I know of... Could be wrong though.

See I was attracted to the immortal also, that is why I am kinda wanting to stick with it. Alot of people hate audiobahn, but I really think they are starting to pick up thier stuff.
Hai im going to ask you this personally, as you are kinda the resident expert here. Would you recomend I go with 1 Immortal in a Snail Shell, or 1 9500 in the same box. I want a good boom when raised, and good quality when bass is not high *which I heard is not a problem*. I have owned MTX before and feel as if they let me down. I know the 6500 are not that great to begin with, but I still expected more. I have hear alot about bahn going up in quality, but have never seen them in person to believe it. The MTX is also alot more pricey, which I would take into consideration big time.
Thanks for all the help from everybody. However no-one gave me a guesstimate on how much I can get for my subs sold. Anyone know?

The new immortals aren't anywhere near as good as the old ones.... but baine aren't they around 350 bucks? For that price step up to an xxx.

An MTX 9500 will rape a XXX in SPL IMO... If you want SPL from RE go MT...

Not totally...
I dont want to pay alot more for something Alil louder. And who doesnt want to spend less? However this time im not making any mistakes with my selection. If I have to pay more for better Im willing. 9500 are expensive. However I really like them after reading about them, including 9500 Vs W7. The only problem I see now is an amp that cost as much as the sub and snail shell. With dishing extra to the sub, I know it will kick me in the butt for the amp.

Pure SPL woofers...
DD 9500
RE MT
MTX 9500
Anyhthing Audiobahn (though often overrated)
a 9515 in a proprely built ported box will spank an MTX9515 in any enclosure you can think of with the same wattage. L7's are also good SPL woofers. W7's have the ability to be pure SPL but JL made it to be a more balenced woofer (and highly over priced). the DD9500 series and RE MT will shake crappy cars appart. the MT is an amazing woofer. tears come to my eyes when ever i see one. lol...and im a DD head who respects RE highly....

Well it will be in a box that looks to be the best you can get (and is priced that way). It is called the snail shell by powered4sound.com. Im thinking 9500+SSbox as of now. However It is going to be one 12. Not a 15. I am still waiting for any amp recomendations or recomended sale price for my current subs.

THat number is for the owner of poweredf4sound.com, maker of the snail shell. BTW i didnt get a chance to call him, but in study hall i went to mtx and they recomend a mono class 801D which should feed it 800w rms when wired in paralel.

bah, 800 watts is near nothing, especially for that sub...

well that is what MTX recomends...but ill call John tomorrow ask him whatsup. My only worry is he is going to think I am wanting to buy all the equip from him (which financially i need eBay) and that he is going to want to sell to me now, and this will be once the stang is purchased.

ok if u want straight up loud get DD the upper lines (9500, 9900 if they even still have them) will beat the 9500 from mtx
Haibane
10-07-2004, 12:57 PM
have you compared the two? John who makes SPL boxes has straight up compared the 9500 to a few subs and so far he says it is doing amazing in SPL
CBFryman
10-07-2004, 06:10 PM
the 9900 was a limited series. i dont beleive that you will find one that doesnt need to be reconed or have a new voice coil as most where over powered for SPL burps...since that is what they where made to do....the 9500 is still being made to my knowlege...just make sure you brake them in well with a good 50Hz for a while....

ive personally heard a dd 9515 and it was the loudest single sub ive heard to say the least.... haven't heard the mtx9500 but theres a kid around town with a pair and supposedly he's hittin very hard but it never seems that loud when i pass him and i kno that the install was done professionally, butt hat doesn't mean much.
