Just about ready to change the oil on my 99 gtp for the firt time since ive owened it. Was wondering should i run a synthetic oil or just normal? I have no idea what has been run in it b4 i owned it but i doubt that it was synthetic. Being its a semi high performance engine would it be a good idea? Let me know thanks. By the way it has 85 k on it.

you could get the oil check out to see what was running it it.....but for now I would recommend Dino oil.....
if it ends up that Dino oil was used before then it is not a good idea to switch to synthetic at such high miles....unless you want to see where all your worn out seals are....
on the other hand I have seen people chnage on high mileage cars and be fine.....so in the end its really up to you

Changed my GTP over to synthetic at 125K with no problems. I have read that some owners have done the same thing and had significant leaks, the valve cover gaskets are a weak spot and often leak after such a change over. The ultimate decision is up to you! (There is nothing wrong with Dino oil as long as you change it regularly it has been around since the early days of cars and continues to this day.)

AMS OIL!!!!!!!!!!!! i know it may look expensive, but in the long run it cheaper. here at my house we run that in everything durango, dakota, 2 gps, lawnmower and atv's. It says you can go up to 50,000 miles w/ out a oil change. You have to change the filter every 12000 miles, ive had my ams oil in my car for about 10,000 and it still looks good as new. Also, you can take a sample of your oil, ship it to ams oil, and they will tell you if it needs to be changed or not. What other oil co. will do that. Now im not trying to advertise for it or anything, but if you just do some research about it you will agree w/ me. good place to start www.amsoil.com

another quick thing, if you pay like 5 or 10 dollars a year, you can be considered a dealer, and get dealer price, thats what we did when we bought all or our oil. saved a bunch of money

I switched this weekend to Mobile 1 synthetic. don't know what was in it before but didn't really care. I heard to much about how sythetic was a good idea. 2000 GTP with 51K so far no problems here.

just my opinion, synthetics are a waste of money for most people. I have had vehicles well past 250k, and never had an oil related failure in any car I've ever owned. I use Valvoline, and change it when it gets dirty.

i personally enjoy changing my oil..i change it less than every 2k miles, doesnt cost much and keeps the engine clean. as rich said, sythetics are overrated but also more expensive too. if they were that much better for daily drivers, car manufactureers would have been using it along time ago in new cars.
