I've been working on this 1/25 scale Revell Monogram kit about a week now. I got a bit tired of making kits that look like the ones on the box (and other peoples) so i decided to do something a bit different. It is the first time i have done this sort of thing so progress might be a bit slow. Also because of this i would really appreciate advice and comments from you guys. Thanks.
First i got some different shapes of styrene and created a kind of framework.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/3249/203672camprog.jpg
Then i started to build up with some filler.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/3249/203672camprog03.jpg
This is the kind of shape i was thinking of using for the side but i'm not sure yet.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/3249/203672camprog04.jpg
Also i have decided to use these headlights instead of the custom Z28 ones. I just think they look better.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/3249/203672camprog05.jpg
I might do something with the bonnet. Dunno yet.

looks impressive! a bit diferent but i like it!
you should go with just a net in the front instead of that molded grill.. and then just put lights behind. that would look awesome.
but that is my opinion.

Yeah i was thinking of something like myself, but i wanted to save that for my next project. I was going to make a grill like the existing one but make it go all the way across. Making it out of strips of styrene.

A bit of progress. It is going very slow as it is all quite experimental for me. This may also be reflected in the simplistic design of the body kit.
basically i have done alot of smoothing and shaping, but still plenty more to do and put some kak on the back which will be shaped into a rear bumper.

Thanks Mike. Believe me, it's getting me plenty frustrated. To top it off i think i might have put a bit too much filler on which may or may not have caused the body to warp a little. Anyway i'm sure i'll figure it out.
look's good so far, I've never seen an older camaro with a body kit before.
That's a bit of the reason i am doing it. I have seen a few people have done the same car but looking like on the box, so i decided to do something different and maybe learn some skills into the bargain.
When i have smoothed the rear out i thought that i would spray on some primer or matt paint to get a better idea of exactly where i need to work on more.

Looks very different.
At first glance i thought...WTF have you done to a classic car.
But after taking a closer look its growing on me and i'm starting to like the different lines you are bringing out.

Thanks PMan. I'm trying to keep as much of what makes it cool in the first place but more to my exact taste. I don't suppose i would do the same if i had a real one, but it is just a model so what the hey!? I just thought it could do with beefing-up a bit.
I've ordered the SPOCOM set from HLJ, so i might be using the seat/s and wing. Not sure yet, not untill i get my hands on it. I might even do it with just one seat and throw in the NOS bottles or i can put them where the back seats should be.

there is a body kit out for first gen camaro's. A guy by the name of Tyler Beaugard who runs www.t56kit.com (place to buy stuff to put a new 6 speed in an old camaro) is building a 68 camaro with a C5 vette driveline (rear transmission and all) and it has a body kit. I've been having problems finding pics but it's green and they're out there so look it up it's "project 50/50"

Thanks for those pics Will69. The front end looks great, but nto quite different enough in my opinion and i am not too keen on the rear lights. I think totally round rear lights would look better.
I must say though, that paint job is absolutely killer. Excellent colour and i really liked that white stripe. I think it looked baetter with the old grill aswell, although the finished product looks ver ynice and clean.

The back of that green Camaro is AWESOME!!! Are you goïng for it?

That green camaro like i said is going to be pretty sweet. The tailights are from the C5 and that's kinda the theme of it (why they're not fully round). Body kit will be made of carbon fiber or fiberglass (buyers choice). LS1/T56 with rear trans perfect weight distribution made for racing primarily. I think the model you are building is somewhat similar or atleast along the same concept. Good luck with it and keep us posted!

Your model. i think it goes to strait down. i think the rear on the real deal looks way better.. but that is my opinon. and you do as you want;)

Ok. I just wondered. I suppose it does go a bit too straight, but it is my first putty job so i didn't want to make it so complicated that i wouldn't end up finishing it. I was actually playing with the idea of doing them like the ones on that real one in the beginning, but then after i did the front i wasn't sure if it would look right so i went for a basic skirt design. Maybe next time i will be more adventurous. I have learned quite alot by doing this.

Here is a bit of an update. As i was getting fed up with sanding and adding filler, sanding and adding filler, i decided to spray the hole thing matt black so that i could see what i need to work on better.

A good mesh can be found in thoose metal filters for cofee machines (kaffebryggare). You get about two square decimeters for some 50-100 Skr and it has a 12 mm pattern, in scale 0,5 mm and it's stainless steel in it. I think they come in a gold/brass finish as well. I've used that Plastic padding mesh my self, but if you measure it and scale it up you'll see that the holes in that one is big enough to throw birds through :-D That's not much of a protection for your precious radiator. Looking good so far, nice to see someone daring to be a little different from the pack. I'm not one of thoose, build mostly box stock with minor mods in detailing and preferably racing and rallye cars.
Keep it up!

Thanks wheelin. Nice one Mike. I think it looks alright and i will probably paint it black anyway so that should make it look abit smaller. And as it is a muscle car i think it needs a big mesh.
