boo hoo hoo.....
after 4 happy trouble free years with my lovely 1.9tdi, i did the unthinkable and filled an empty tank with unleaded. We got abot 10 miles before it died ! Managed to syphon out all the petrol through
the sender trap in the boot and flushed out all the lines with fresh diesel
and off she went. All seems well apart from a high whining noise that
is not just linked to engine speed, ( not present at tickover) it rises and falls according to load, ie, accelerate and the noise rises quickly, release accelerator and it dies down. I have been told this could be the turbo, anyone know any better,
many thanks in advance

It might by you injection pump or your injectors that suffered from the lack of lubrification.

Ok guys, call me stupid but my mechanic fixed this in two seconds.
Whilst removing the fuel filter to drain it I dislodged the large tube connected to the turbo ? or the air intaketo the engine ? Eithetr way the noise has stopped ! Thanks to those who replied..............
