2 quick questions for '92 Grand Am

1. Turn signals don't work at all - nothing on dash, no lights outside, no clicks. The emergency lights don't work either when the switch is moved. The Chilton Guide says may be flasher, may be switch inside steering column (must see expert for the switch replacement). I used to be able to exercise the emergency lights and I could get my signals to operate again but for a while now neither light (the emergency flasher or the turn signals) will click, turn on, or anything. Which is broken, flasher or turn signal switch? I really can't afford a $300 visit to the mechanic just for them to check.
2. After a recent visit to a tune-up place, the engine temp gauge reads much lower than before (used to hang out at the first 'line' on the gauge, now it's very close to far left of gauge). I also have very little heat coming out of the vents, even when the temp knob is turned all the way up. Did the service guys mess up my heating core by changing out the coolant (Chilton Guide says the heater core ties in to the coolant via a heat exchanger)? Any thoughts or ideas on this before winter hits?

yeah my 95 grand am runs very cold a never get any heat it sucks but on the bright side its good for in the summer
no changeing the coolint just improved your cooling so know it runs even colder so the heats not going to be very good what you can do is block about half of your radaitor with tape and cardboard but try to do it behind the grill (for looks) that will block most of the cold air from cooling the coolint causing higher temps allowing for better heater but remmember to remove doring the summer

he might have mixed coolants which causes them to jell up, that would explain the no heat, running cool would probibly be the tempature sending unit

change your thermostat. Its probably gunked up from the old coolant and not closing.

i had a buddy who had a grand am with i belive the 2.3 and i ask him about this problem because i was having a prob with my 96 cavalier not staying warm he said if it has new thermostat and is still having the problem the take the thermostat back out and before you put it back in put a little bit of silicone around the edge because the way it sits in the motor when you put the housing back on it has the capability to slid a little sideways therefor letting the coolant pass by he said he tried this and it worked like a dream (if you still have a old thermostat in it it might me stickin open so get a new one and try the silicone thing so that baby dont move when you put the housing back on) hope this helps
