ok so im at my girls house and i was gonna chill for a little b4 she went to work. im not even there 5 min and a guy comes to her door. "I just hit that red car out there" So yes i was driving my gt that day. So i go out there and theres no body damage but its all his black paint on the side of my pass door. So my first instinct is to break his face with my window but that wouldnt of helped me. He told me he went through the stop sign and cut his wheel and didnt have time to cut it back and his front bumper hit my door. Also said right b4 he hit it he said wow thats a beautiful car! So after i calmed down i realized its not TO bad of damage just getting his paint off. And im still thinking how in the hell do u hit a parked car especially a 3000GT which most people can see a mile away. So cops never showed they said they were busy i got his info and left. Hopefully i get an estimate thats high n can get some money out of it. But i might even people able to wash a lot of it off AFTER i get the estimate who knows. Anyway dont know if you guys ever had damage to your cars but when some 1 tells you that makes you feel like someone in ur fam has died. ha. K im out just thought id tell my story peace

FREAKIN'-A dude! That must've been some pretty damn strong will-power to hold you from not knocking that dumb@$$ down. I'd be so mad if someone hit my car. But yeah, sorry to hear about what happened bro... :(
So I'm at school right now and one day, I parked my car in this area that was a bit small because the regular place that I park was all filled. Next day I come by and realized that my car's alarm has been triggered. So I look around and there's this paint on my door because this stupid girl parked hella stupid into my lane and hit my car when she was trying to get out. Anyways, I got so mad I keyed her f*ckin' car! Damn, I still get hella mad thinking about it.

Yeah, that was very honorable (can't think of another word) of the guy to own up to his mistake.

you're lucky man.
last night some dumfuk backed out and his front end hit right behind my front left tire (i was backed into the parking spot, as i normally do), and he dented the panel right in front of my door, and now i can't even open the dam thing.
i walked out of the store and as i approached my car, i noticed that the door looked like it had a gap. upon closer inspection i discovered what had happened.
hit and run...

Dude, that sucks like crazy man. Gateway, does insurance cover any hit-and-run stuff like that???
Gateway
10-03-2004, 07:32 PM
yes. if you have UMPD (uninsured motorist property damage) or collision coverage, that will cover a hit-and-run

Yea and how much does your insurance go up if it's not your fault like this stupid shit?
sLADe781
10-03-2004, 07:34 PM
Well, there you go Rothrandir...hopefully your insurance has it. Gateway, will using that raise the premium?
Gateway

nope

premiums go up if you hit something and it's your fault. Sometimes the state sets a "threshold" where if the payout is under that amount, the insurance company can't do anything.
Take Colorado for example. If you are at fault and the insurance company pays <$1000, then they can't charge you for it.

That's good to know....but I always hear that even if it's not your fault if you report it to your insurance to get it fixed then your premium goes up either way. But yeah, they're not insurance agents so....

Yea thats what I alwyas thought, what happens when its 20% your fault or something (dunno if other states break down fault to both drivers in a percentage).

my insurance won't go up?! i was told by several people that it would (including the officer who came to check things out(i didn't file an official report)). i'll have to get a hold of the insurance company tomorrow i suppose.
luckily i carry a camera in my car for these types of circumstances, so i can provide evidence that i was well within the lines (in fact, i was a bit off to the side of the spot...the other side!)
i still don't know how the idiot managed to do it...

police are retards. insurance companies do not increase your premiums for an uninsured motorist claim.
btw, what state do you live in ?

FYI if the guy has insurance his property damage liability coverage will cover it anyways.

i don't know what kind of insurance the guy had, as he drove off promptly after hitting me...

If he has insurance, then he has property damage liability.
Rothrandir

that's probably true, but since i have no idea who he is, the likelyhood of getting his insurance to pay for it is quite slim :(
we should get together sometime, i could use use a bit of help with some minor modifications ;)

you got his name/insurance information right? if so then call up his insurance company, and also yours too.
btw, know any car audio installation places in our area? The only place I know if is Red's CB in waterloo. I think I need a custom box made for my car, but don't of any other places.

no, i didn't get his name/insurance/anything.
like i said, i went into the building. an hour and a half later, i walked out and noticed that my car was damaged.
i have no idea who did it :(
i know of a car audio place down by marion (can't remember the exact street), but not sure of the extent of what they do. the only time i was in there was when i was looking for some speaker cloth for a school project a few years ago.

well since you live in Iowa (as do I) I know for sure that you don't have uninsured motorist property damage on your insurance policy (it's not available in Iowa) but if you have collision, you can have the insurance company pay out of that, but you'll need to pay the deductible.
Rothrandir
10-04-2004, 01:15 AM
is there any chance that the deductable might be more than the total bill of fixing the damage?

depends on your deductible....
usually it's either 250, 500, or 1000. See what your deductible is, get an estimate, and go from there.

well, i went to a local body shop today for an estimate, and it turned out to be about $700.
while the guy was looking at it though, he decided he would be able to pop a spatula (that's what it looked like at least) in between the crack and allow the door to open and close.
i think i'll just keep it the way it is, aside from 3 light scracthes you wouldn't notice anything, and the rest of the bodywork isn't terribly great anyway, spotted with the ocasional hail dent.
still considering filing a police report though, in the off chance that the bastards might ever be found...
