Z28 vs. Eclipse

I was out in the Z28 tonight cruising, my friend Dusty was in his 96 Eclipse GS-T. We decided to play around for a bit, so we got it started from a 35 MPH roll.

Mods:
Eclipse- GReddy BOV, intercooler piping, CAI, Apex exhaust(whatever the most expensive Apex you can get is,shit i dont know), short throw shifter, lowered, sitting on black 18's. It is a 5 speed also(obviously if it has a short throw Josh), and running on stock PSI.

Z28- 350 4 Bolt, Crane Powermax series cam, edelbrock 600 CFM(come christmas it will be a holley 750 double pumper), 302 Heads, Edelbrock Torker Intake, TH350 with Hurst Dual Gate shift kit, 3.73 gear in a 10 bolt rear end.

So we get going down Route 45 outside of Savoy, i let him get a jump on me since he's not the best driver(he is getting better though), and i let his doors get to the front bumper before i punch it; I dropped it down into 1st at around 35 and instantly started to pull on him and ended up about 3-4 cars ahead before i slowed it down again. He said he missed a shift...... So we go again, this time i gunned it at about the same time he did and he was actually able to keep up with me until about 55 MPH then i just kept pulling and pulling on him more and more i slowed down at(if i remember right) 110 MPH. This road was a strait shot so we were able to get some other good runs off. When we were back at town we were headed down a vacant street and stopped at a stoplight, he wanted to see how he could do from a dig so we stopped there and waited for the light to turn red, then green again. I held the RPM's around 2000 this time for a decent launch. This is where his shitty drving skills come into play, i got him off the line and pulled at least 4 cars on him before i shut it down. He seriously needs help with his shifting people..... We went to the local hangout afterwards and he got offered a money raced against a centrifugally supercharged 02/03 Cobra, he turned that down fast, cause i told him how the food chain went around there and if he couldn't beat me he didn't have a chance. All in all it was a good night though i had some fun, and met a few new faces around the hangout. Next week i hope to have a better story, i just thought that this forum has been deprived of The Josh for a while.

I don't know how Dusty could have expected to win with the way he shifts. Who knows though, perhaps he'll become better.

Good race, the outcome is what I predicted after reading your mods, very nice. Aren't the '02 and '03 Cobra's very different cars? They came out with the 390hp one in 2003 and 2004. Either way, he should be glad he didn't race for money, although I'm sure that car would work pretty good.

nice race man, just curious what does the Z28 run stock 1/4mile time?

your friends not running stock boost. with those mods he should be running close to 16 psi. tell him to buy a boost gauge and put it on the car and he'll see. also tell him to remove the boost restictor so he'll run a full 19 psi.

You downshifted into 1st going 35??

My tranny would cry if I did that.

Ask him if he really bought a CAI cause that would have been a waste of money on our car ;)

It's never been to the track, when it had a DYER V-671 Blower, Dual 750 Competition Carter carbs and had aprox. 600 HP it ran anywhere from 11-12's. But since then it hasn't been to the track. The TH350 seems to be pretty stout right now, especially since the car only has 7780 miles on it.

I guess he could be running a higher boost i dont know much about those cars, just his mods.

I'm not sure about the Cobra either, next time i'm out i'll ask him what year it is.

good kill,
Did you have credence playin loud??

No when i race i turn the music off, there's only one sound i need to hear. What RPM i'm at.

11's or 12's on 600hp? dude that's enough power to run in the 9's, low 10's at least........wtf?

Well that blower had problems once in a while(hence, it was taken off). Problems with hooking the tires up to, all of the problems got fixed after the blower came off.

One problem it had was that when you would go WOT, after letting off it would spew some of the fuel back out and get all over the windshield.

against a centrifugally supercharged 02/03 Cobra

didnt make the cobra in years '00 and '02.
centrifugal supercharger swap? geez! i wonder what kind/cost.

it is my understanding that without touching the Eaton roots blower on the cobra can produce up to 17psi, i would think that would be enough boost for most people. i guess i am wrong.

-what do the boost addicts think? why be content with 17 psi when you can go 18...

nice run josh.

Also not sure about the brand but i think he said he's put 13k into the car as a whole, and i'll also ask about the price if you really wanna know.

I read that some ppl are getting centifurges so they dont have all that tourqe down low so they can launch better. It was in muscle mustangs and fast fords. They had a 03 corba with centifurge and they were launching it at 6500 rpms and hitting some insane times. But they snaped the belt he ran it up to 7 gs each shift and the pulley was just spinning to fast and it was on a 6 rib pulley.

It's an 01 Cobra, he got a settlement. That's how he was able to afford to put all that work into it.

Good kill. Considering your cars mods I doubt most cars are gonna touch you.
One problem it had was that when you would go WOT, after letting off it would spew some of the fuel back out and get all over the windshield.
 Am I the only one that found this funny?

Yeah, Dyer is not the choice me or my old man will ever go with. B+M or Weiand.

It doesn't get run that much since it's a '79 and it only has 7780 miles on it. Earlier that day a kid in a Lancer RS just kind of backed off the throttle when i pulled up next to him...I wanted to see what those could do to.

that guy in the GS-T sucks at clutching. I think it would have been a close race if he was a better driver.

This is a picture of it when it had the Dyer blower on it.
