Engine noise while turning

My 2000 Cavalier has this new noise that's come up in the last few days.... when I turn to the left, and am going at a decent speed (at least 25, I'd say), it makes a high pitch screeching noise. I don't know if it does the same thing when I turn to the right. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Could be a few things, one of the easier ones to check is the front brake pads.

rack and pinion....check your power steering fluid....

I checked the power steering fluid, and it was a little low so I topped it off. I drove it to school today (45 mile round trip) and it was still making the noise when I got home. I'm not sure how long it would take it to stop making the noise if, in fact that was the problem.

It only seems to make the noise when turning to the left, not the right. It seems to me it could be the brake pads. Any other thoughts though?

Check the brake pads before we tell you to look at anything else.

i dont really see it being the power steeering fluid..

My Haynes Cavalier Repair Manual says that it has something to do with your front brakes.adjust your front brakes if they aappear to be loose.I had the same problem except it was in the rear,and it failed inspection for that(threw off the suspension of the vehicle).I fixed it by adjusting the back brakes because they were loose. Also check the shoes and make sure they arent worn..if they are worn take it and have them replaced,or as in my case,do them yourself-just be careful and make sure you have all the right tools and know what you are doing.You want to look at your front brakes as soon as possibble,if they are worn, the could do rotor damage..and you dont want that..believe me ive been there..

Took it to the shop yesterday actually, and it was the front brake pads and rotors. So my problem's all fixed.

it was probably just the pads not the rotors. there is a wear bar on them that makes a loud noise but glad to hear it is fixed.

Thats cool. Usually this type of noise is front brakes related.
