I have a 2001 Grand Prix SE that I am making dual exhaust. I am looking for a nice loud rumble. I want the exhaust to sound deep, like a V8. What mufflers would give me that deep loud sound that I am looking for? Borla, Flowmaster or Dynomax? Thanks in advance.

Your gonna get good replys on all the mentioned muffs. I think i am gonna go with the Dynomax Super Turbos since i had those on my 98 blazer and it gave a nice rumble. heres an sound page on different muffs -

hate to tell you this....there is no way to make this V6 sound like a V8....

It will sound nice at idle but as soon as you hit the gas it just sounds like a V6 trying to sound like a V8

BTW I do have the Borla and like it but I dont want you to get your hopes up too high

i got some flowmasters, and no ubend and res. and i like it. but like catz said, your never going to get that v8 sound. There was this 04 cobra getting a borla when i was getting mine done, and you wanna talk about amazing!!!!! It was like nothing else, he was also getting headers too i should add.

I guess I should give you my full exhaust setup....

I have TOG Headers flowing into 3" Downpipe through a high flow cat to the Borla CatBack

and again it sounds nice at idle, low with just a touch of rumble....but at open throttle it still sounds like a V6

I have The Dynomax turbo bolt on kit. For the most part it sounds good Its low if you are cruising like 25-40 mph in town. and then it strays away from the deep throaty sound until you are on the gas on the freeway at about 60. I like the system it adds a nice look from the back also. Hope this helps in your decisions

I'd like something that gives a rumble when idleing and at low RPMS, but something that doensn't whine like a friggin rice car

Borla?

The Dynomax system does not have the whine. Even at High RPMs it definitaly does not sound like those Rice Burners. For the Price Of Dynomax I think its a Pretty Good Deal compared to the Borla system. I paid $420.00 for my system.

The entire setup was only $420?

Another thing- I don't want the kind of exhaust that is loud enough where people get pissed off when you drive by and cops look at you kind of funny

Its not loud enough to attract the cops but it does sound good. Here is the site that I bought my kit from check it out. http://www.3800performance.com/vehicles/grand_prix_97_03_miva.htm
I like the sound of my car and have had many complements from others.

The dynomax mufflers do seem nice, but if I'm going to spend that much on performance exhaust, I'd rather get stainless steel mufflers, that are supposed to last the life of the car. Aluminum can react with all kinds of crap.

I hate to say it but,the Dynomax catback is the same dia pipe as stock 2 1/4 in.The only part that is larger is the y-pipe back to mufflers which stock is 2 in...for the money you would be better off just getting the Dynomax Super Turbos from either jegs or summit and have an exhaust shop install them.A member of Clubgp had the same on his car and didnt like the y-pipe and had it re-done and when he got it home he cut it open and it is a very poor design.I wish I could find the pictures of it,I always seem to get timed out try to use there search :disappoin

I found the link but the pics are not hosted any longer :disappoin :disappoin

If I were to do it all over again,id go with the GMPP catback which is all stainless steel 2.5 in made by Magnaflow and its 519.00 shipped

$519 isn't bad for stainless. I just got my car about 2 months ago. 02 GT. That means the mufflers are 3 years old. They look a bit rusty, but no holes yet
