Help Me Please 93 4runner

I was wondering if any of you experts ( or even just think you are is fine by me!) can help me with a problem I'm having with my 93 4runner. It is an automatic V-6 and has no power at all. When I take off it seems like its gonna have power but only starts out going so fast, then right before it shifts it seems like the power is really gonna kick in now, but certainly does not! :( After shifting it seems like it actually loses power. When I go up hills I can't go past 46 mph (how embarrassing)(sorry to anyone out there who's reading this and has seen me on the road ;)) I am just one confused gal who doesn't know jack about cars and can't afford to just take it to every mechanic to have them tell me all kinds of things are wrong with it. It would be soooo much help if I had atleast some sorta idea before I took it to get fixed. Maybe arm myself with a teeny tiny bit of knowledge. I appreciate ANY posts with any ideas! Thank You!:-D

Does your "check engine" light come on?

When's the last time you put plugs in it?

How many miles are on the truck?

No the check engine light does not come on. When I ran the diagnostics it indicated there were no problems with whatever that tests. ( I used a haynes manual to show me how, pretty darn nifty!) I put new plugs in it about 3 months ago hoping that would help(but didnt obviously). There is about 121,000 miles on it.

Oh! And another thing! When I am going a steady fast pace it kinda shakes. I dont know if this has anything to do with anything or not, but just thought of it and decided to add it! It only shakes if its a steady pace, if I let off the gas or give it more th evibration stops! WOW! The weird things that happen to my car.......

I would guess it's a fuel problem. One of the fuel supply components is not doing its job any more.

An easy thing to do is put a fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank and see if that makes any difference. If not, the fuel filter is the next logical thing to replace. The major issues left if not these are the fuel pump and pressure regulator. There are alot of other possibilities, but these are the obvious.

Thank you so much Brian for your input. Changing the fuel filter was one of the next things on my list come payday! I hope it works!

Well, I finally goy my fuel filter changed today (and it needed it badly) it still runs the same as far as I can tell....I havent driven uphills or any faster than 35 mph yet, but we'll see. Someone told me to change plug wires along with my (rotor cap?) distributor cap I think. Saying that it should have been done when my plugs were replaced because of these newer kind of engines getting more electricity going through them? I hope it helps, we'll see! Of course I'm always open for any more suggestions ANYONE has! THANX!

Try putting some Chevron Techron fuel additive in your gas the next time you fill up, before you fill the tank. You may have dirty injectors. If it helps a little, you may need to have someone remove them and really give them a good cleaning.
