My New Toy!

Well guys, I just finished buying my new toy today. Its called an Airbrush! I bought an Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS Airbrush today. Tomorrow i will be buying a compressor so i could put this baby to work!

On the website it sells for $98. In the store it retails for $120. I bought it in the store since technical advice from professionals is priceless when your a beginner. :D

iwata is a good brand. i have one of thoses. and i went ahead and bought a craftsman air compressor --the kind that can run power tools. but i am sick in the head, too.

lol, Yea some of my friends have recommended me the Paache airbrush's but i really like going after what is said to be "the best". I was actually thinking of getting a Craftsman Air Compressor also today.

joeham, rb26, i'd get the craftsman. one reason is versatility. another is capacity: it may be loud, but because it holds a lot of air in a tank, will not be "on" constantly like the smaller, more pricey, almost useless, "art" compressors. i just said the hell with those kind. i love my compressor. it is like an old friend.

but if space and noise is an issue, get the art compressors. they are quiet and fit under your desk.

the biggest PITA is actually the airbrush itself, as it must be cleaned *constantly*. :)

Yesterday i went to Sears and bought a Pancake style Craftsman 1.5 Gal 150psi Compact Air Compressor. The salesperson told me that it was very quiet compared to normal compressors while it performed just like them. It is supposedly new but was out of stock though. So i ordered it and it should be here the 15th! Until then i will just stare at my airbrush and read the handbook over and over and over again. :lol:

joeham, here is what i do: i use a small plastic trash can while working. i use it to blow out the airbrush as i pour water, overflowing, into the cup to dilute the paint. when it spays clear, it is clean and ready to be put away or used again with another color.

the brush must be dismantled, like a drag car after every 1/4 mile run, to clean out the needle and nozzle. paint will accumulate and congeal everywhere within the mechanism.

once you get used to it, the ritual will be a matter of course. and your payoff will be another tool and technique to add to your trick bag :)

Kewl i bought some Createx Paint i believe its called. I can't wait to start using the airbrush!

Well i bought a different Air Compressor. This one is a 3 gallon tank 1.5hp. Fills in less than a minute and lasts for a good time!

That's what Will69Camaro and I use on our models. It's quieter than the ones I used at work, and the upstairs neighbors haven't complained yet about the noise!
