temp gauge

hey - my stock temp gauge has stopped working and i know its the gauge and not the sender cause i took the gauge out and put voltage to the terminals and the needle didnt move. so what do you suggest i do? should i get a gauge pod for the a-pillar and put in an aftermarket gauge, or should i look around for another stock gauge to replace the original?

if the answer is an aftermarket one on the a-pillar, what temperature range does the 420a run at? because obviously there's numbers on the gauge not red and white lines. thanks sooooooo much!!!! :smile:

i would just get a junkyard gauge from another rs/gs. btw putting voltage to the terminals might not be the best idea since they usually run on pretty low voltage and it would be easy to burn up the gauge

Guage failure should be very very low, I would certainly expect the sender to go first. But a "real" coolant guage is always a good mod anyway if you wanted to go that route. Same with the oil pressure guage. The "lines" on the stock guage are useless. :) For 99% of cars normal coolant temps are right around 190-200 degrees. It will vary though, and up to 220 or so I wouldnt panic. Mine gets that high and sometimes more in the summer because of the FMIC. Another stock guage is usually cheapest option though. Might want to replace the sender first and hope you didnt put too much voltage to the guage.
