My truck was running fine and a neighbor borrowed it. While he had it the transmition stopped working. When I shift into any gear the truck does not move. It feels like it is trying to move. I have checked all the normal stuff (oil, cable, fuses.) The only question I have is if I insert the key and move it to on I can move the shifter to any gear without applying the brake. Would the BTSI (Brake/Transmition shift interlock solenoid) keep the truck from moving if it's broke?. I don't remeber if I had to use the brake to shift, but think I did in the past.

Unfortunately, all I can say is that you are right about having to use the brake to shift out of park. I'm sure one of the other people around here can help you some way though.

It's 2 wheel drive. I believe I found the problem. I dropped the pan on the transmission. The filter was laying in the bottom. I read an old post that had mentioned this. After talking to my neighbor, he said he hit a bump and then it stopped working. I will replace it tomorrow. Is there any way to keep the filter from falling? Also I found a very small spring in the bottom of the pan. It's 1 1/2" long and about the size of a finish nail. Anyone know where this may have come from?
