Hi. My 2004 Tacoma Double Cab Pre-Runner V6 has a problem. I hope maybe someone here can help. When I had roughly 1500 miles on the truck, I went out one morning to crank the truck to go to work. I turned the key and nothing. It wouldn't even turn over! The dealer ship sent a flatbed to take it in. A repair was made to some underhood wire harness. Now today, at 3200 miles, the truck did the same thing only this time it did it after an 8 mile drive and then it sat for about an hour. After the hour I went to start the truck and nothing.... Has anyone else experieinced this? I've owned Toyotas from the 80's until now and have never had any problems with them. Can anyone help?

When it doesn't start, do you hear a click from the engine compartment when you turn the key? If you don't, check your starter relay function.

OK on my tacoma my non-toyota floor mats tend to slide forward and if they move about 1 inch(really!) it will prevent the clutch pedal from going down far enough to allow the starter to work. it scared me a couple times, but now i just pull the mat back and i'm good! do the 4x's still have the "clutch start cancel" button? back on 90 my dad got a new sr5 v6 4x4, and it died a few times and wouldn't do anything because of sum loose connection to a computer in the passenger kick panel. it was like that when he bought it and once they fixed it, he never had any problems...

When the truck "does not start" the check engine light comes on. There is no audible click coming from anywhere that I can hear. As far as the floor mat idea, my truck is an automatic.

Check your starter relay for function. Check your battery connections for loosness.

Where is the starter relay located? The battery connects are tight. Should I have these problems on a new truck?

How about wiggling the auto shift selector? The starter will not engage unless trans is in neutral or park.

Starter relay is in box by battery. Did you check the battery cable connections on the other ends - at the block for the ground connection, and the starter for the positive terminal connection?
