I had a dream a long time ago that still bugs me to this day. We all know that you cant feel pain thru dreams but this dream had me thinking. I was riding on my bike (again a long time ago) and i came to a busy street. With this being a dream and all, the cars were going 90+ mph so i thought about it and said forget it. Then at that point i realized it was a dream because things werent adding up. So i said "why not?" since i knew the cars couldnt hurt me. Then what happend next was disturbing- i put my hands on the handle bars and i could feel them!! So then i started thinking if i can feel the handle bars would i be able to feel the 90+ mph ton of metal hitting me on my bike; right then my mom wakes me up for school. Also i sometimes would wake up with different slight scratches on my body that werent there when i went to sleep, such as one you would find if u accidentally cut yourself with somthing but the wierd thing is they were COMPLETELY painless! These dreams have stopped for some time now but still makes me wonder. What are dreams are dreams and what do they mean!?! Anybody have any similar experiences or a possible explination to mine? Share your thoughts.

i dont have any explanations for yours.. but i'd like to share one of mine...
woke up in the middle of the night.. all of a sudden my heart started beating really fast.. all of a sudden i felt an artery explode off, my chest filled with blood and i started to die.. i could feel the blood building up under my skin, my vision went fuzzy.... but the strange part.... the more i prayed for God's help, the deeper into hell and suffering i went. i could feel myself being pulled off my bed and IN to the wall.

No offense, but that right there straight creeped the fuck out of me.

It's actually a common occurance for such things to happen. I haven't dreamt of late, but I would get scratches out of no where. Also, feeling handlebars...you could have been grabbing apillow in your sleep. It's not uncommon to use bed objects as you would be using the object in your dream. Cuts can come from anything, everyone knows that.
Here's my :2cents: on other mysteries...
It's been said that humans only use 10% of theis brain. Well, the other 90% is totally a mystery and left up only to theories as answers. One of mine is that humans have some sort of psychic powers. Whether it be prediction, telepathy, or w/e...perhaps all...that these things can occur unto us even now only out of accidental pure concentration or just a jump of heighten brain activity.
I've had dreams months about events months before they'd occur and seeing how I write down my dreams pretty much to a T, they match identically. The true question is, was it a dream or was it a sneek of the future. Would it be big things? Yeah...I dreamt of this concert that I had no idea about at the time and I was with my girlfriend, who was seein another guy when I had the dream, and with my friends having a tailgate party b4 the concert. Did it happen 2 months later? Yeah.
Go figure...

I had a messed up dream a while ago.. It felt horribly real to-thats always the scary part.
It was daytime, sunny, i was in an abandoned parking lot.. Then, i hear screeching tires, i turn around, see this girl (this was a girl at the time that liked me, but i wanted nothing to do with her) driving a big car..?? forgot what kind, it was brown though, and she was coming straight for me-to hit me.. I run, and i'm running, then i fall-i'm on the floor, and i turn over and look at this girl stopped about 10 feet away from me, i go to get up, and she runs me over from crotch to head..THEN I WAKE UP.. That was freaky. The next couple of days was so freaking weird seeing her at my workplace..
That felt real.. I love the flying dreams though, or the ones where you leap 100ft and don't die.

Forgot to mention, this happened like a week after i seen on the news a very similair event. I think it was in LA..?? Where the Wife driving a mercedes ran down her husband and drove over him several times when she seen him with another girl.. That was probably stuck in my head at the time-that was sick.

Damien, great reply, listen to this-this happened just last week. I dreamt i was in front of an old friends house in which i haven't seen in a good 5 years, i was talking to his brother..and i was like, hey, hows pat doing..he said fine..i wake up. PS the next day..NEXT DAY..MY brother bumps into pat in a bar.. And my brother told me that pat says hi-that was weird.
Heres something else to chew on.. Ever have them dreams to do with a limb on your body..say like in the dream you fell and broke your arm..you wake up and you realize your SLEEPING on your arm-and it's numb or hurting. Or you dream of a waterfall, and you wake up realizing you have to pee. There is ALOT we don't know about our own brains.

I think that your brain will take whatever is going on in the real word and just run with it, making it into crazy situations and the like

I honestly think there's something to Damien's idea about supernatural power. I mean we've all heard stories of monks in Tibet or Japan or China or something like that capable of strange things and I know there are thousands of stories of other people. I think prevision is definately possible for the human mind but I think there are enough distractions nowadays that the only way it usually really manifests itself is in dreams. At least that sounds possibly/likely to me.

Weird things. I can remember all my dreams the next days but some of them I forget and don't recall them when I wake up. Well, months after I had the dreams I couldn't remember I would re-live the event and it would click in my head that I dreamed it. Its like predicting the future but how does the brain know whats going to happen. It makes you wonder if psychic are telling the truth. Maybe they have figured out how to do what we do in our dreams all the time. Makes you think.

I saw something interesting that relates to this a while ago. They put these people into a state of hypnosis and described events to them, like wearing a crown of thorns for instance. The people they were using as guinea pigs actually started bleeding. It's scientifically proven that your mind can actually make things real. Pretty strange.

Dreams are just a mix of experiences from your past, different events mixed together as one, that's why most of them dont make any since at all. You hit R.E.M sleep and that's when you see the funny pictures.

I died by burning to death when the earth was enveloped by the sun. I felt an intense heat wash over me, my hair curl and my skin char. And then there was Nothing. I couldn't feel my body, couldn't feel time, couldn't see, hear, anything. Just nothing. Then sound and feeling and life started fading back, like when a TV fades on. I woke up and was in a room with a lot of other people. It turns out, Aliens had seen the earth ending, they had sent down a craft, to pick up any remaining bits of DNA from all the life on Earth. Off the whole planet they had only found DNA matter for a few hundred people. So we were the people they had managed to regrow from DNA.
Anyway...it was interesting. :screwy:

OMG it was so emotionally draining. I do think it would be an interesting movie, with a few modifications probably..
It started, I was watching a show on the Discovery channel about some earth-like planet, that just fell into the sun in whatever galaxy. And for some reason I 'knew' that it was going to happen here...and then a while later changed the channel and the news was mentioning some weird things happening- animals freaking out or whatever and it confirmed it for me. I called my husband (boyfriend at the time) but he was at work (he's in sales) and I tried to warn him, tried to talk to him, but he just said, "No, I've got someone on the other line, I've gotta go babe," and I said, "WAIT!"
He said "What?" and then "OH MY GOD!" and I heard a fizzle and the line was dead.
It was getting hot and I looked out the window..there was this weird line like the horizon, everything beyond that line was scorched black shells and fire...and the line was moving closer, faster, it looked like it was going hundreds of MPH...
I had a few seconds, I stepped away from the window and let the blinds fall.
And then the heat hit me. And the rest I already told.
It was the most emotionally draining dream ever. It was one of those dreams that feels 15 hours long and at the end my whole family, my boyfriend, everybody I knew was dead. And I had the overwhelming grief of that but also gratefulness that some of us could start over. Knowing we all had this huge mountain to climb, starting over on another planet..and barely any of us even spoke the same language. Facing that and without anybody I knew...but at least we had a chance.

Very often my dreams become true, i end up in the same situations and do the same stuff and remember that i did this before. Once i had a remote with no words or numbers on it (my friend's), but in my dream i had the identical one with numbers and all, so i remembered what every single button is. wierd. Dreams are just thoughts you might have had made into a live situaion. Maybe so that you don't risk doing it in reality? I don't know, just my opinion.
ohh yeah and avarage person uses 10% of its brain capabilities. When humans where first "made" they used way smaller part of it. So in a few billion years we will be smarter and migh explain it. To show this here is an example: first humans invented basic stuff, and untill like 1800s everything was pretty simple then everything started evolving REALLY quick, cars got so much better, computers went from calculators to such complicated once right now. This shows that people back then were dumber then they are right now. So dreams migh be produced by the other 90% that maybe think only during sleeping.... well that was sort of off topic.

I know what you mean.
The other night, maybe two or three nights ago, I had a dream that I was being sent to prison. I think I stole a car, or was in the vicinity of a stolen car or something of that nature, but the point was i knew I was being sent to prison for three years. And it was one of those dreams that felt like it lasted a long time. The longer it went on, the more real it felt. I was asking my girlfriend if she would wait for me, if she could help me, but she seemed to have a kind of disdain in her voice like "sure.. i'll wait  ". The whoooole time I was freaking out that i was going to be sent to a cell for 1100 days, and i could see the cell they were going to put me in. My life was over, my girlfriend was gone, i couldn't finish mechnic school, all three of my cars were gone... a total loss. I was so relieved when I woke up from that dream.
Before that, i 've been having a pattern of dreaming about my car in some way. Usually just weird dreams.
I love dreaming though, and have fun with them. My favorite part is telling my freinds the next day of the whacky events that went on in my head the night before. Sometimes they are just too weird and convoluted to even be able to put them in words. Don't you love those dreams that only make sense to you?

ohh yeah and avarage person uses 10% of its brain capabilities.
I don't have a degree on this stuff but I believe that is more along the lines of 10% used for conscious thought. There is alot more going on there, parts of the brain processing movement info from the inner ear, space used for memory, all the power needed to control the various hormones and control functions of the body. Just because we can't use all of our brain the contemplate the universe doesn't mean that it isn't near completely tapped out doing everything else.
first humans invented basic stuff, and untill like 1800s everything was pretty simple then everything started evolving REALLY quick, cars got so much better, computers went from calculators to such complicated once right now. This shows that people back then were dumber then they are right now.
Not really, 99% of all technology is just simple trial and error, one person building on another persons work. Edison, who wasn't the originator of the "electrical filament inside a glass bulb" idea by the way, "invented" the light bulb mostly because he was the one who finally sat down and tried 6000 some different elements before finding a combination that produced a practical light bulb. And so as more people did more things and were able to share them faster (hence the huge explosion of new technology every time a better method of communication was created), more and better technology comes along.
Really, I think humans are evolving slowly, the humans from hundreds of years ago probably had just as much potential for higher thinking as anyone today. But as the brain needs to be pushed to higher though just as you need to workout to build muscle and endurance, it was just a matter of no one really getting a chance or having the motivation for more advanced fields of study.
As for dreaming...I really don't know. I go months between dreams and I rarely remember anything when I do. Perhaps its just that I don't remember most of them. Or something.

Regarding dreams - There are 3 basic levels of consciousness when you're asleep. we'll call them A B and C.
A is the state when you're still asleep, but you remember everything you dream, or close to everything, while in this state - a very light sleep.
B is slightly deeper, but you don't remember anything you dream in this state.
C is the deepest you can go, you don't remember a single thing from here, the best possible sleep.
Throughout the night, you'll pass between all of these states, like a wave, passing between them all countless times.
The reason you wake up and go, "whoa, that dream was fucked" is because the left side of your brain _needs_ to make sense out of everything, so it pieces everything you dreamed in your A state together, like one long dream, instead of realizing they were all seperate dreams.
That's why you'll wake up think you had a dream about riding an elephant, then all of a sudden you were in a prison with a man named bubba who said if you didn't give him your smokes he'd send you to Kansas with Toto.
I'll stop rambling now.

I was taught a little differently....
Four stages to sleep that work like a sine wave 1-2-3-4-3-2-REM
Rem sleep is the deepest sleep you can get to, it's known as Rapid Eye Movement.
And when you jerk awake it's called a Hynogogic Jerk, it's the time when all the muscles in your body start to relax and it makes you jerk awake in shock.
Anyone wanna know about night terrors or other such sleeping disorders??

There is no scientific explanation for deja vu, most psychologists dont even have a rational explanation for it, so whatever you wanna think it could be/mean could be logical enough.
Thats creepy as hell! Happens to me all the time....I sometimes to try change what happens next but only get the flash....

Anyone wanna know about night terrors or other such sleeping disorders??
What does it mean when you are asleep and you try to wake up but you cant? I could be asleep in my bed and hear my alarm go off but be comletely paralyzed! I would try with all my strength to move but im not able to. I would try so hard to the point when i finally move i roll off of my bed; then i get up walk towards the door-and then realize none of this is happening. I am still on my bed asleep! My mind has just simulated that event. Then i would finally wake up, a lil out of breath. I dont understand but i think it has something to do with stress. Any thoughts on that?
p.s. I dont have any problems with my muscles or anything to the sort.

That is cool. For many years I've had dreams that later happened. The difference is that, in the dream something bad happens, which doesn't in real life and that's when I know it's over. One time in high school I sat in awe while a discussion occurred in class. For more than 5 minutes I looked to the person that was about to speak, before they started talking, and knew what they would say and who would talk after them. I had dreams about doing things with my daughter -- at least 10 years before she was born, even before I'd met her mother.
Bad part is that I don't remember them until they are happening.
As far as the 10% / 90% thing, I'd have to agree. There are alot of things that are going on in our heads that we don't currently understand. Telekinesis, telepathy, etc. We may have understood long long ago, and that was what magic was. We may learn to use it again....who knows?
Very cool to consider....
