ok i got a 98 accord lx,it is for a fact a 3.0L V6 now i want to know if my engine is a vtec, how can i find out ??

i see some cars have a plastic cover on top of the engine saying 3.0 vtec but i bought my car used from a shady place and it didnt come with that cover, it has all the holes for the cover and it looks like as if there WAS a cover at 1 point in time.....but its just not there, my friend told me its just missing the cover but it is VTEC.....so im wondering is it vtec or not? would it say VTEC some where else?? how can i find out??

Yes, you car has VTEC. the only 6th gen accord that DOES NOT have VTEC is the DX model (135hp)

In the previous generation (5th gen) only the 4cyl EX model was available with VTEC. The LX, SE and V6 did not have VTEC.

Here's a link to explain the reason and function of Variable Valve Timing and Electronic lift Control

Actually, your valve cover should say 3.0 VTEC on it

It should look like this (of course without the CAI and the painted Valve cover)

Is that REALLY important? Are you spiffing up a show car? It looks like a (presumably fairly heatproof) piece of plastic that just clips in.

Yeah, it looks like it's just missing. You can see where it goes. It should be right over the spark plug boots. Just goto the junkyark and rip one off
