ok just like the subjects says. i get the CEL after i hit 50 mph and when i turn the car off it goes away, even if i turn the car right back on, it won't come back on unless i hit 50mph. i tried searching but can't find how to check the self diagnostics..

1994 regal 3.8....THANKS

consult a repair manual for how to pull the codes. The manual will also tell you what each code means. I would bet it's a wheel speed or vehicle speed sensor going bad.

well i don't plan on keeping the car much longer so i'm not gona buy a haynes or anything. i hit 139k miles and it's slowly starting to go. don't u know how to pull the codes, or a site to tell me?? i know i need to jump the OBD connector (ASAL or whatever) but i'm not sure what terminals i need to jump...it only looks like there r 4

i also forgot to mention that the speedo is retarded (goes all over the place) and the cruise doesn't work, u hit the set button and the light goes on but then goes right off

It sounds like it's your vehicle speed sensor (VSS). i'm haveing the same problem with my 1990 3.1 buick regal. I fiddled around with what I thought to be the vehicle speed sensor on my car and the next thing you know the speedometer started working better, and the transmission started shifting better thus allowing the car to have better take off speed.

ya the CEL light has been coming on after 50 since i got the car, the speedo stoped working about 500 miles ago. the car sometimes bucks when hitting the gas too, it first only did it when it was raining so i thought it had something to do with the water

From your earlier post you sounded as though you were experiencing the same problem that I was having... My speedometer was jumping all over the place (it mostly stayed at zero), the car was very sluggish during take (especially going up hills), and it seems as though it was shifting way to late...

Your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) should be located on you transmission. From what my manual tells me this sensor along with the brain controls your speedometer, your Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid (TCC), and the Cruise Control.

I unplugged the connector then plugged it back in, and it started working. I couldn’t get the sensor off... that is why I am here looking here for a way to take it off …

PS if you find a way to get the sensor off could you please post it here…?
