Pick one band that really stands out in your mind as what you think is probably the best band ever.

Mine definately has to be Credence Clearwater Revival, i could listen to only their music for the rest of my life and be satisfied.

Theres quite a few that stick out in my mind, one would have to be KoRn.

KoRn? are you kidding me? :shakehead

there's way too many for me to even try to choose....way too many bands that have had an effect on how music is today, and way too many that have had an effect on me personally.

I know none of you have ever listened to them, so go do it.

me. I'm the most influential band ever. :p

but seriously, I would have to say that the modern music champions are:

radiohead
metallica
nirvana (I don't like them that much, but they did create a new sound)

Nirvana would definitley be a serious contender in the running.

basically any band that's had a large influence or that has changed the face of music could be a candidate for "best band ever".

but you would have to ask someone who's unbiased towards one genre in order to find the REAL "best band ever", because bands that have been influencing have come from all sorts of different genres, such as The Beatles, Nirvana, AC/DC etc. so every person would definitley have a different view.

Ehh... Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and Metallica.

And as single influence, Randy Rhoads.

These are the greatest groups/people to me, thats why when I play, you can hear all of these guys shining through in my style.

BTW, Nirvana killed the solo. In all due respect.

I said KoRn because of several reasons, #1, they brought back metal for the most part, or at least to be somewhat main stream, if korn didnt get big on MTV like they did in 1999 we wouldnt see any kind of metal, rock, emo, or hardcore on MTV, which still doesnt get too much show, but more because of KoRn.

At least that is my opinion, korn has also influenced my life more than any other band.

Nuclear rabbit is pretty good. My bass teacher told me about him. I believe he plays a seven or nine string bass.

ec437
10-02-2004, 01:05 AM
nine strings. thats crazy. I hardly ever venture down to the low b on my 5 string bass instrumentals...

Mediocrity
10-02-2004, 02:18 PM
Jean Baudin of Nuclear Rabbit plays a 9 string. Two higher strings and two lower strings than a 5 string. He's absolutely crazy.

and just as a note, KoRn has done nothing for the music industry besides giving a bunch of angsty suburban teenagers ar eason to be angry.

For me the greatest band ever would have to be the most influencial band ever, and that belongs to either The Bealtes or Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin most definitely.

Cream, with clapton.

KoRn i must say has revitalized rock music. THeir last album was mind blowing.

LEts see, I've got an Ibanez Five, that crazy looking one, an EDG or whatever and a Six string Carvin Fretless with a high c string. All through a $200 Fender BXR!

whoops. Forgot about hotel california. That song is absolutely enchantingly incredible. Their other songs are alright I guess, but hotel california is, IMO, the best song ever written.

there are many bands out there that have given more influence then they have recieved. Korn is not one of those bands. Come on. For my I think some of the top influential bands of all time are:

The Beatles
Ozzy/Sabbath
Zeppelin
Metallica
Nirvana
Hendrix
Clapton/Cream
Victor Wooten

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great new bands (last 10 years). But I would have to say that the greatest band of all time would be the Beatles. In my eyes, they fathers of Rock and Roll.

Before you go trying to shit all over yourself and give me this korn stuff... Have you ever even listened to the Beatles? But there's no fucking way korn is even close to the best band of all time.

Disclaimer: I Like Nirvana, first off. And they were influential...

But the by-product of them being influential in good ways, they spawned a generation of high-school kids who wanted to do nothing but sit around, smoke pot, and play music in a basement/garage. By and by these people did nothing but waste time instead of doing something productive.

They also spawned some sound-alike bands that just couldnt stand up to the plate of being the next Nirvana.

That's the only thing that irks me about their influence.

If nirvana are guilting of anything, it's letting the mainstreem open to bands who can't write music, can't sing, and are horrable at lyrics. Hence Good Charlotte, The Vine's, Blink 182, and Simple Plan's sudden rise to popularity, and mainstreem "success".

For me it's a tie between Led Zeppelin and Los Lobos. Led Zeppelin needs no justification for their greatness. Los Lobos, on the other hand, are nothing short of phenomenal. If all you know of them is that they played 'La Bamba', then you don't know anything about them. I'd highly recommend checking out their album 'Kiko' as a starting point. You won't be disappointed.
