where should i get cv joints at or do i need them

Yes you need them or your car won't go any where. CV-Constant Velocity are basically flex points on your axles - 2 per side. They allow your steering wheel to turn and drive the wheels and also allow for suspension movement.
My opinion if the axles are old your best off replacing them with reman. axles from any parts store.
