Hey everyone!

First off thanks for your help in my last post! For those of you that have aftermarket exhaust on your lancers, here's a question I have: I am looking for just a muffler for my 2002 oz (waiting till spring for the full exhaust, headers, ect) I am not wanting to spend a ton of money on one either. For those of you who just have the mufflers which ones would you prefer? I am looking for something not too cheap, and not raspy at high rpms, something with a good, LOW, tone. I noticed ebays mufflers are like $40, but I tend to question the quality of those, i want something with decent quality to hold me over till spring. I was thinking Magnaflow, or Greddy, but wasn't sure if they just made the tips.

Thanks for your help!!!!

The ones on Ebay are cheap, I wouldnt get those. You can ask my friend at www.RPMmotoring.com and he might be able to help.

I have a Borla muffler on mine and I love the sound it sounds pretty deep for a four banger. I dont know how much the muffler was but you can check out www.borla.com and see if they have anything.

i got an 02 oz too and im wondering if i should go ahead and get the full exhaust system or just the muffler to hold me over until i get some more money...how much of a price difference are we talking? and it is all something i can install myself?

Yea, it should be easy to do it your self. If my friend ever comes back and gets his site going you can get a good deal there.

I say go with magnaflow. Sounds good from the front of the car, i never really got a good listen from the back. I raced an evo a couple of weeks ago, after i won we talked a bit and he mentioned he had magnaflow, sounded tight.

I've spent alot of money and time experimenting with the exhaust on my '02 lancer and this is what I've found. First, eliminate the second cat convertor, you will need to weld in an O2 sensor fitting (available from summit for about $12). This will not set the Check engine light. Second, replace the small resonator. I actually used a cherry bomb style straight through muffler which deepens the tone but will not affect flow. The muffler has been replaced with a stock looking (but hi flow) sonic turbo muffler (about $25). This provided a good HP increase, a great tone and no "tinny" sound, and not to loud. I've tried those round "sport compact" mufflers but they sound to much like a bumble bee. Good luck!

I've heard Apexi and HKS usually make better power gains. But, its your choice.

I have a bombz racing mufler and it sounds absolutely amazing. My import autobody mechanic had a huge smile on his face when I turned over the engine and we heard a growl instead of that rice-burner put-put you usually hear! I was deeply impressed as well! Just installed it today...and damn do you feel the change in drive!

the RA really doesn't need anything other than the muffler as far as performance goes. it's fairly open already.
