The answer to this is short. That's the good news.
Answer: The best way to upgrade your car as you've described is to jack up the steering wheel, roll away your car, roll a suzuki swift gti under said steering wheel, attach, you're done.
It'll cost you one-tenth the money and a-hundredth the time to do it that way. That's the bad news.

Ohhh man, that's a loaded question there. You can fairly easily swap a Suzuki Swift GT motor in your metro. But the auto to manual, and 1.0 to 1.3L swap requires some welding and cutting on the drivers side frame rail to mount the transmission. I could write you a manual on what you can do, what you can get, who to talk to. 1 big top, DON'T go to SSGTI.COM. their prices are ripoffs, and there's tons of people on http://www.teamswift.net who can help you out with whatever you need. Now, here's how i'll break it down
How much do you want to spend
Turbo or N/A
Drag race or autocross
Are you mechanically inclined
Let me know, and i'll guide you on your way :)
I've done several GT engine swaps. I currently have the Geozuki convertible. She's pretty bad, check out my links in my sig

hey thanks for helping me
money is not an issue- its a project and a good way to tell all the cav driving guys that they got nothing
id want the turbo but if possible a supercharger. i dont plan on goin out to the races but more or less really hall ass around town in a very illigal fassion if ya no where im goin.
as far as mechanics go i can do everything myself pretty much. only problem would be engine swap(need a cherrypicker) and i dont have a welder(yet) other then that im good.
now being winter is knocking on the door and im not gunna rip it apart while it 30 below im gunna start with the smaller stuff.
currently im looking for suspension parts and brakes. as in i want all new stuff

Ok, well, here goes.
Suspension : Koni makes an adjustable strut insert for the swift. but it's not exactly bolt-in. requires some sawing and drilling of your current struts. Also, you can get a set of lower, more stiff springs from Intrax, or SSGTI.com.
Motor: If you need, I can hook you up with a complete turbo system, minus the intake piping. They come with turbo, manifold, downpipe, modified high flow fuel rail, oil cooler system, and underbody brace. The downpipes have a nut welded into them for an oxygen sensor to monitor your fuel/air ratio.
The transmission mount is fairly easy. I used a torch to cut a hole in the frame rail in the wheel well to get access to the inside of the rail. Find the nut (covered by sheet metal on the other side) and drill a hole through it. Then, have a 1/4" thick 4"/4" steel plate made, with a 10X1.25 nut welded to it, and a hole in the steel plate. You'll have to weld the plate to the inside of the rail where the GT mount is supposed to be.
hole in the frame rail (http://www.teamswift.net/~geozukigti/hole.jpg) hole 2 (http://www.teamswift.net/~geozukigti/rail.jpg) mounting plate (http://www.teamswift.net/~geozukigti/plate.jpg)
Brakes: A buddy of mine also developed a bolt-on swift braking system that stops from 60-0 in 98ft. You'll need to do the 4 wheel disc swap on your metro before though.
Rims: I would go no bigger than 15", 16" if you want more show, less go. Outer diameter on rims will hurt your 1/4 mile time. 14" would be best, but 15" is a good balance.
You can also use front and rear swaybars from a 95-98 metro 4cyl. They'll fit perfect, and they're thick. But you'll have to fabricate swaybar mounts for the rear
Anything else, just let me know. There's TONS of mods you can do to the motor. Do you know how to build a motor?

well i havnt done a car engine yet but ive played with enought engines that it should be a big deal and i can learn some stuff while im doing it.
i think it would be better if i explained in detail what my plans for that car are gunna be.most of the parts on the car now wont be there. ill be swapping most everything with something else.
interior
racing seats
new dash
new carpet everywhere
raplacement setup for e-brake-e-brake itself and cover around it
steering wheel
im removing the backseat and building a custom setup. it will be flat from the front seats all the way back.
all apolstry will be redone on the doors and sides of the car
sound system-amp-2 8" subs in back- speakers-etc
rool cage
exterior
body kit
paint and graphics
new rims and tires
completly new braking system and suspension system- stock sucks and from the way i drive i want be be able to stop in a hurry lol
transmission conversion from auto to manual
may be a stretch but i would like to go from fwd to rwd. if im really good ill go awd and make an option 2wd setup (like how some suv's have)
convert manual steering to power steering
swap out all head and tail lights
engine
engine swap- swift engine
cool air intake
turbo or supercharger. i would prefer the supercharger being my needs will be more goin fast off the line and flying around towns. however i would like to spend time n a road course ment for racing so if a turbo is the way to go then let me know
basically yeah knew engine everything. i wanna go go go

Do you know any JDM importers? Cause if you wanna go AWD, suzuki made an AWD system for the Swift (called the Suzuki Cultus in Japan)
You may want to import an entire vehicle to get all the proper parts for the swap. The cultus uses a cable shift rather than the shift linkage bars. It also uses a different fuel tank to make room for the drive axle. Your metro floor pan will need to be cut in a few places also, and your steering rack may or may not need to be re-located. The Cultus engine is also a bad boy version of the GTi engine. If you can get a hold of one of those, that would be excellent. You will have to replace the pistons with some lower compression pistons if you want to go the turbo route. Supercharging a GTi motor doesn't get very good numbers. A smaller quick spooling turbo on an in-equal length manifold will put out 100-150 extra horsepower and spool around 2500-3000. The Cultus AWD driveline uses a viscous coupling, so it's 2wd in light load, and locks to 4wd in hard driving, or when 1 tire starts to slip. So it will preserve gas, and last a long time.
A much easier option is to stick with FWD, and get a limited slip differential. It will provide for excellent traction and cornering, without having to rip the whole car apart.
If you're wanting to go big, i would go with the Cultus engine. It's got a more wild cam and cam timing, bottle style intake manifold with smooth runners and more efficent design, and more room to stick a 60mm Nissan SR20 throttle body on.
As for the suspension, for racing, maybe just go with a coil-over kit.
As for the trans, I can find you a heavy duty gearbox that'll put up with the punishment of racing, and an LSD in it.
There are front strut braces, rear strut braces, and underbody braces available. There are also rear braces that also bolt from tower to tower, and to the floorpan to make it even more rigid. And front braces that bolt to the strut towers, and the firewall.
For the project and power you're looking for, i would also invest in urethane suspension bushings, urethane engine mounts, and urethane swaybar bushings and end links.
For high speed, I would get the uber-braking kit I was telling you about.
If you're really serious about doing all this, let me know. I'll start contacting people, getting prices of everything, and give you everyone's contact info so you can order all the parts.

the place I got my JDM engine last week has a G10 turbo listed on their site. I don't know how much they would want for it, but I paid $400 for a plain G10 with a carb. You can always call them too. They have much more than what is shown on their site. www.nadauto.com

All these big plans sound fantastic, or actually like a fantasy. Reality check: When you're done, it still won't work as planned, you'll be frustrated, mad, sick of it, it'll still be a pos base metro, and you'll sell it for pennys on the dollar since thats all it'll be worth. Do your self a favor. Push your donor car into a river and buy a decent swift gti, maybe even one that somebody has upgraded a bit. You have no idea how much happier things will turn out.

So dan, are u calling the Geozuki (http://www.teamswift.net/~geozukigti/DONE.htm) a piece of junk, and should be pushed in a river? Hate to break the news to ya Dan, but if you've had a bad experience with an engine swap that doesn't work 100% at first, you've been a part of every single swap ever done. No such thing as a perfect swap. BUT, if you're capable enough to do all the work of a swap, you're capable of diagnosing problems and fixing them. Oh, and bringing up the Swift GTi thing. Go find one..... Oh, and find one with a good trans, and a good floor pan. They are almost non-existent. And the ones that are out there, aren't for sale. Trust me. It took me almost 3 years to find a DECENT swift GT. And it still had a pretty rusty floorpan. I had to have a Metro convertible shell brought up from Alabama to get a rust free shell for my swap.
Today's lesson?
It's easier and cheaper to buy a junked swift, and toss it's stuff into a Metro(Since they're the EXACT same car in the first place) than it is to find a swift GT that's not riddled with rust problems.
Fantasy or not, plans are plans. I thought my next convertible plans were crap, and were never gonna happen, or get finished this summer. But it's proof that it's possible. And honestly, it's not that hard..
But i'm gonna go push my car in a river now, since I just found out from some poor naive soul that it's not worth it.

I searched for Swift GT's forever then I decided to buy a Metro and just swap everything from a Swift to it. It was simple and my Geo runs just as good as a Swift GT.

not worth it. ok fine well if the satisfaction that you can take 99 percent of the cars out there with your superbeast metro and fly around faster then anyone else,AND the fact that you did it all yourself with no help from the guy that knows it all and works at jiffy lube . as i keep goin the car has much much much more personal value being it was something you accoplished and have to show for it with the knowledge in your head of the car inside and out while civic boywonder in tights reads a "how to change the oil" book for dummies. theres way more pride in any metro creation then there is in a viper that mr rich got off the lot. if thats not worth it then maybe you should stick to driving your what is it, o yes superlube battle mobile
