worth it?

i would like your honest opinion on this....

since i was fairly stupid and did alot of stuff to my RS, and parents wouldnt let me get a turbo for my first car to learn on, would it be worth it to turbo up my RS? i know i would need to upgrade some of the engine internals and stuff. and please, no flamming, i know what has to be done, this isnt a post asking what to do lol

i would probably go with a HRC kit, or something from https://www.sfp.net/ since i do live in south florida.

edit- just to give a little more info on the car, it has fairly low mileage for a 99 (approx 58200), the exact year i wanted, and everthing else cept the turbo lol and no other problems with it. i would hate to loose my baby

It's your call, a lot of people will say just trade it but if you don't wanna get rid of your car you can turbo it, look at the STAR turbo systems for GS/RS's. The only thing I see is that your car is auto, so you'd probably be better of getting a manual GST/X or getting a shift kit. IMHO a turbo isn't as much fun in an auto, but maybe you disagree. It comes down to personal preference, since your car is fairly low mileage I don't think you would have a problem with the engine, what kind of boost you looking to run?

well i for one am gonna get a turbo prob late next summer gonna get a star stage 2 turbo kit. But i had a question i was wondering if i just get the stage one which is cheaper i could get it sooner. The only diffrence i have seen in the two is mainly the front end intercooler. So is it that hard to add a intercooler to a no intercolled turbo kit. or would i be better off just to go with the stage 2.

With the stage 2 you get the following in addition: # Star Performance Front Mount Intercooler System
# Intercooler Chrome piping with beaded ends
# SPI Boost Gauge
# HKS STD BOV
# Electronic Fuel Componants

Also it ups the boost from the stage one boost of 5-7 psi (which doesnt really need an intercooler) to 9-10 psi. So it isn't just the intercooler.

clipsekid99: If you wanna run low boost then you can run it without a intercooler, the STAR stage one kit doesnt use one and I'm pretty sure that it's optional with the Greddy kit. Also at low boost, engine internals aren't mandatory. Hope this helps.

well, i can see where you are comming from, but for 1 thing, i have never driven a stick YET lol and i dont really want to do a shift kit cause i would have to redo alot of the interior. second, i have seen an auto 2g run i think it was 8.9 1/4. granted it was a gsx and was all suped up

Yeah np, The stage 2 will get you about 280hp. If you want to learn stick I say just rent a manual car and drive into a parking lot with urself and learn that way. I'm not saying auto is slow, with really high power it can be better, it just not as fun.

the positive thing about an auto is that it can hold boost on a shift as where a manual has to build boost back up after each shift, this may only be true for an auto with a shift kit though as i've heard sometimes boost can spike without one.

Really an automatic transmission will never be able to shift as quick as you will be able to (i mean c'mon they were built for luxury and ease, not racing) but on the other hand you have to learn how to drive stick first.

a shift kit has nothing to do with your interior, its a way to make the transmission shift firmer and produce less heat.

With that turbo on an already marginal transmission, I wouldn't expect it to last very long. If you do turbo your car, you'll need to at least get a very large auxilliary trans cooler.

Save your money, handle the slow NA car for a while. I had a 94 camaro v6 auto for 2 years before my TSi AWD. You will be able to do so much more with your turbo DSM than your RS, for much less money. You don't have to build the internals on the 4g63 until you reach around 400 whp.

Ummm, so you're saying an automatic transmission shifts slower than a person? :screwy: Unless you're a very good shifter I doubt you would shift as fast, the only problem is where the auto shifts at which is usually geared towards economy rather than economy, this is why you probably need a shift kit if you're sticking to auto.

Nobody will ever shift faster than an automatic. If i were you i would go all motor then add nos with a shiftkit and a higher stall conveter.
