well why dont you just find a used B18C1 or C5 and drop it in with the proper tranny, ECU, and what not, it would be alot eaiser and more reliable, in most cases anyways, and prolly cheaper, than going LS/VTEC imo

I Was Thinking About Doing A Vtec On My Head Too. Like A Gsr Or Itr Head, But I Heard The Head Swap Dont' Last Long. I Have A 2001 Ls, Auto, And Its Slow. I Get Embaressed When I See A Girl Next To Me With A Gsr. Haha But I Want To Make My Ride Faster. Should I Buy A New Type R Or Gsr Motor, Is That Possible? Im Willing To Spend Under 5k For It, Or Just Boost My Ls With Turbo, Convert To Stick And Save Money?

Turbo LS is always good. Not great for a long term car. LS/vtec is a great set up and will beat a GS-R, but it is hard to find a mechanic that can do it properly. I would go with the GS-R swap. No need for the type R engine. Type R is faster, but the difference between the engines alone is small. The money you save getting the gsr will make up for the hp you loose going with the type R.

Keep in mind the ls/vtec will give you more hp and will cost less than the swap. The only reason I don't recomend it to most people is there lack of reliable mechanics. If you have a mechanic you trust and know, you can feel safe going ls/vtec. If it is done right (top and bottom end) it will last as long as a oem engine.

To sum it all up.
ls turbo= most bang for the buck, but issues with reliability.
ls/vtec= realy fast motor and great torque, but risky.
gsr swap= safe, but costly.

manual swap is the FIRST thing you should do, thats why its so slow, you cant put a little 1.8 to an auto and expect it to impress anybody.

for 5k id get a B18C1 swap and have it gone through or do it yourself and rebuild if necessary, then save for a while longer and boost it, or spend the leftover on dropping in some forged rods/pistons and new bearings, etc and throw on a wet kit and youll smoke that chicks GSR, but make sure to tranny swap as well.

and to integra123 what EXACTLY happened in the engine? do you know? maybe cheapest route would be to rebuild it and go LSVTEC.

well im on the process of converting my tranny. Is it better if i swap it to a "new" gsr motor with the tranny or get my gsr tranny with a vtec head? I still think it's unsafe with a vtec converting, cuz i keep thinking there will be some engine prob in the future. I want a fast long lasting motor for an everyday driving car. I like a vtec with turbo mix, it just sound right, or i just save a lot of money and buy turbo and do tranny.

Id go with a B18C1 swap from hmotors or something then you got all you need minus slave/master cylinders, hard lines and pedal. maybe you could find a cheap wrecked 5 sped teg, thats how I converted my civic, got tranny and everything else for 300 bucks, even got an engine and tons more.

If your going to put a turbo in your car, you don't need a engine swap, ls/vtec, or even vtec for that matter. Just turbo the ls. An ls transmission will be easy to come by and cheaper. The ls has a low comp and can hold a little boost. The vtec head has better air flow, but big whoop! Last time I checked the ls head handled forced induction pretttty well. With the money you saved you can port and polish your ls head. No biggie.

So is that a fact? Ls turbo can beat a gsr and itr turbo. Well is it reliable and last long for an everyday commute. If i save all those money, then i will slap on a itr metal conversion.

No, an ls/turbo isn't faster than a gsr/turbo. An ls/turbo is faster than a gsr stock.

Listen, I've read about four of your threads, all asking about different set ups. How about you tell us what you expect from your car, and we'll tell you the best way to get there. Do you want to drag race? Is it a daily driven car? Do you want to auto cross? Do you want to race it on a track? How much HP are you trying to get? Answer some of these questions and we'll answer some of yours.

dude, i want an everyday commute car, and fast. Atleast a bit over 200 hp if possible. I usually like racing on the freeway, just mashing on fools. Not into track or 1/4 miles illegal street race. This car will take me to school and work. Plus i want it to last as long as possible. So will all those modify will be smog test legal?
