On my 96' Explorer XLT the front end is starting to rattle/klunk when I drive on rough surfaces or over curbs. I am sure it is the suspension but I am not sure where to begin, what to look for and what to replace. Any help would be great.
Thanx :eek7:

Lower ball join would be my guess, factory ones do not have a place to grease like replacements do. It may want to wander a bit going down the highway if this is the problem. Jack the front end , grab the bottom and top of wheel and try to rock the wheel in order to see if there is any play. That is the telltale sign. If you grab the left and right side of tire and find play it is something else like rod ends, wheel bearing or combination.

if it a a loud "squeek" it is the stabalizer arem bushings. this is the 1 inch (?) bar from left to right that has rubber bushings bolting it to the main frame. the bushing gets dry and squeeks when you hit a bump. some Ford trucks/cars do it when you hit the brake hard a 10 mph and make the nose dive down, on smooth road. i paint mine with antisieze.
