engine reves at start up

My 99 grand am gt randomly at start up reves to a higher than normal rpm. I have tried shutting it off and restarting and quickly tapping the gas pedal, but this doesn't help. It only does it on the first start up of the day and only random days. Any ideas? It is a V6 HO engine.

thats normal, as long as its not reving really high. When the engine is very cold its normal for the engine to rev to about 1500 - 2000 rpms right when it starts up, tehn the rpms willl stay a little higher on idle than normal (usually about 1100 or so) until the engine heats up to the proper operating temperature. This is why it only does it certain days and not every day. Also its not really a good idea to shut it off right away and start it right back up when its cold because it will cause a lot of wear on your engine than if you just let it warm up

It is higher than normal though and just started to do this. I've had the car for about a year and it is not the normal start up rpm.
