I was wondering what you guys thought about the heat shields that are selling on eBay:

Will it really block off heat from the surrounding area? Because a large part of the filter seems to be exposed still.

hey Slade, if I had known about that shield I would of bough it before cutting my hands open fabricating one from HomeDepot sheetmetal!
yeah, its worth it, I had one from Injen on my Eclipse and it helps out quite a bit. what you wanna do is possition it so that the shield is blocking off the engine-facing side and the expossed filter is facing towards the bottom portion. that way what ever air raises from the ground up is sucked into the filter and what vapor is produced by the motor is blocked by the shield. its not an exact science but for $12 I'd get one! I would touch my filter after running the car ans after installing the shield the temperature of the filter was low enought to "feel" the difference.

You could get that, or you could go ghetto and cut one side and a hole into a coffy can (tin is a better thermal shield anyways lol).
