When I first start up my 95 Aurora, and put it in reverse, it takes about 2 seconds before the car will actually back up. It just sits ands revs when you step on the gas. Also when first taking off, it doesnt seem to be shifting very smoothly. I checked the fluid and everything seems to be fine. Stumped???

How many miles on that tranny, has it had a filter and fluid change? Try a bottle of Lube Gard tranny protectant, it's been known to help. I found it at the local NAPA.

:smokin:I noticed the 2 cent icon is gone from our list of (smilies)...
Most Tranny shops will do a test drive drive (general Managers)
around the block. They will catch the problem in this (short) test drive.
If you feel uncomfortable with that (first)
road test evaluation, go to another tranny shop
and repeat the road test. These guys that (run the tranny shop)
have an hear for spotting the problem!

I'm with the rebel... I've found tranny shops to be among the best for diagnosing problems up front for free.

Maybe it's because they can pay another years tuition for their kid going to a private college by the time you get your car back if you do need repairs.

:smokin:Some shops have them (Tranny) on a shelf ready to install, by far these are a little less $$$ to R & R . More $$$ to rebuild the one in your
car.

My tranny was slipping 2 1/2 yrs ago so I took it in to have it rebuilt,I paid 4000.00 for the job and I just had It rebuilt again for 2000.00 at the same place. If I had it to do over again I would drive it till it stopped.and then buy one from the scrap yard or if worse come to worse buy the tranny from the dealer where they do a proper dino and have a tranny place install it ,,,,,,PS keep the old one...........

is your transmission control module throwing any codes? , is your over-drive light flashing?

it could be your shift solenoids, those are not that hard to repalce.

take it for free diagnostics and go from there.

I have been following this thread hoping someone had gone thru this. I have had the same thing happen with one of my 95's recently. Not sure what the problem is. No codes or other problems. It has only happened a couple of times, I think twice in reverse and once in drive over a period of about four or five weeks. A year ago I did the solenoids and this does not seem to have anything to do with them.

A tranny shop is the last place I want to put my trust in. I realize it must be done, just do your home work. After studying the solenoid problem on this and another forum I felt pretty informed about what I needed done, and what it took to do it. One shop qouted me $350 to do the job, not bad. The rest wanted $600 to $1,200 for it because they needed to "remove the trans" or "take it apart in the car". It was all crap. I did it in my driveway, on my back in two hours, and I had never had the pan off one of these things. That was 15,000 miles ago. If you go to a tranny shop, go to several. Don't let them talk you into a trans flush!

I am considering dropping the pan, draining the fluid, and checking the filters just to see what I can see and see if it likes the clean fluid. She has been getting drove pretty hard the last few months into Detroit and back out every day, 170 miles at 80 plus mph to zero and back to 80 on the highway in the evenings.

I agree, change the fluid & filters (no flush). Earlier in this thread I mentioned a product called 'Lube Gard'. I put it in a month ago when my tranny was having some 'morning sickness' symptoms that have been described here. I can report a real improvement in engagement and smoothness, it's worth a try in my opinion.

An additive you can use that has a great success rate is LUCAS, I have used there gas treatment and there oil treatment. Dont use the oil treatment unless you need it though. Never used the tranny stuff but if I was to use somthing I would probably stick to Lucas although a little more expensive.

:nono: I have heard also that LUCAS PRODUCTS are great and work but one experience I had when I first used the transmission LUCAS fluid was It was a little bit was put in the transmission to compensate and easier shift but then a few days later I had to have my transmission rebuilt. Luck it was covered though most of it and she was gone a week. :banghead:
