Initial D Code Names for cars.

To the ones who know the cars really well, I just want to know what would be the Initial D code name for the '91 Geo Storm GSI. (like the AE86 is the Toyota Trueno, or the FD3S is the Mazda RX7) Also, what would a '93 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS DOHC be called in Initial D?

What you're looking for is a chassis code, meaning the name of the platform that a particular car was built on in that generation - usually a platformed shared with at least one other car.

Mitsubishi Eclipses of the year you're talking about are generally referred to with the vague term DSM - short for Diamond Star Motors, the joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi that produced the Starion/Conquest, the Stealth/3000GT, and the Eclipse/Talon/Lazer.

As far as the Geo Storm, you'd be better off finding a Storm/Isuzu Impulse fansite to check out that info.

Do I even want to know why you're asking this? :sly:

To answer your question, but first, I'd like to say thank you because you helped my friend Tak (no, not the guy from Initial D). But I was still wondering if you could help me, because I'm either at my job or I'm at the race school I started last year. But my reason for wanting to find out is because I'm about to return to Japan for the third time to visit a friend, Yuske, and he's a road racer. For a whie now,I've been keeping in touch with him, off and on. He's offered to pay for my car to be shipped over. Hearing him say that, I became really excited and so now, I'm spending more time at the track, with the assistant driving instructor. Mr. Brett says I'm really improving, but even when I'm training with him, it's hard keeping up with his 3000 GT. I'm still able to keep up with him on the curves, but since I've found out my friend wants me to come to Japan, I'm more excited and focused than I've ever been. Mr.Brett has also noticed I've improved since I've joined the school. Because of that, he's been keeping the school open late, until 4:30a.m. Everytime I train with him, I take his advice and soak up as much information as possible. I know there's a big difference between mountain racing and course racing, but my instructor tells me, "Whatever course you're racing, you can addapt to." I hope that pretty much answers your question as to why I'm asking.

When I got the Geo Storm, it was a Base engine. But I replaced the old engine with the GSI, and that's what I wanted to know. I got Isuzu parts and other stuff.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to Japan, with my friend. The first time I rode with him, he told me we're gonna' go Drift Racing. Not knowing what that meant, I looked at him funny. When he took me out on the course, I ALMOST pooed on myself. It really scared me, but at the same time, I was amazed how well he took the curves, with such ease, at full-speed. After that, I've been doing course racing and now I'm looking forward to seeing if I've got what it takes to keep up with him and his FD 3 S. Since I have Front Wheel Drive on my car, and it can't drift, but I can do left foot breaking, that I have no problem doing, and using that, I can keep up with just about anyone in my class. It's also become hard for them to keep up with me, so I guess all my training's paying off.

That's pretty much all I can tell you for now, but if you have any helpful information about racing, I'd really appriciate it. And that's why it's important that I find out what kind I have. Once again, thanks for any help you can give.

Honnestly, no. True, some people may think it cool to know the chassis code for your car, but I'm not trying to be a big shot about it. I was mainly curiouse, so I could keep up in future racing conversations, and that way, my friend Yuske from Japan will know what kind of car I'm driving, when I go visit him in Japan. Recently, he asked me what kind of car I was driving and I told him I was driving a 91 Geo Storm. He replied, "A Geo-What?" Anyway,if you'd be more than willing to help me,thankyou. I'm really excited about taking my moddified Geo Storm to Japan to show off what it can do. And oh, yeah, the Dino Trend Readings showed me I'm throwing out more power than his FD 3 S. And so I'm really excited about racing him. It's not about winning or loosing, but how much skill I have, and whether or not I've learned enough to keep up with him.

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright

I know there are some people that have bother'd to try and do something to a geo, by either swappin in some suzuki motor, or running boost on the stock on. But I will never believe one word you said, who would waste that much money in a geo? Post pics to shut me up or I'll just keep laughing ove here

Firstly, it sounds like what your'e saying is that noone should be modding any cars, because modding is just changing your stock car (which is somehow wrong) to make it better and somehow more right. Instead of buying an RX-8 and changing out the suspension, lowering it, changing out the stock exhaust, and adding a nice super-cooled turbo, you should just not buy the RX-8 to begin with and just buy the RIGHT car, which would be something like a Lambhourgini or a McLaren F1. (Okay, I know, some of us don't have quite THAT much money - we'll just stick with our collection of Porsches :icon16: ).

Secondly, people get used to their cars, they like how they handle, get used to driving, shifting, braking, etc. (not to mention getting used to where everything is in the car and almost having an automated feel to driving it) Instead of having to break in a "new" car and dealing with all the headache of that, some people would rather just keep their cars, tune it, and work with what they have.

Lastly, check out www.stormowners.com and go to the members section. There are a LOT of people there who would love to tell you how much money they spent on their Geo and how much fun they had doing it, how much they love their car now that it's modded, and how much more fun it'll be to do the next mod on their list.

But at the end of the day your still driving a geo...I see no point. I mean I drive a g2 integra it's slow, I mean there is no sense making it faster b/c I'll still be driving a Honda.

Just because you don't see the point doesn't mean there isn't one. Some people spend 2-3 hours a day in a gym. Others spend their sundays in a church. Entire cultures do things without us necessarily seeing a point. But it doesn't mean there is no point.

At the end of the day, yes, I'll still be driving a Geo, but why should I be forced to hate the car I drive? I like it and only want to make it better, feel better, drive better, etc. I don't see the point in having a car and not only not wanting it to be better, but also not doing a thing to make it better. But some people just want a car to go from A to B. Doesn't mean there's no point in it. I just don't see it.

The point of ours is not to judge others, it is to see others and judge our own lives accordingly. I mean, in the end, we're all dead, so what's it matter that I tuned my Geo, or you just drive your Integra around, or whatever. Just trying to have some fun along the way, my brother! :p

Two questions:

1, how is your Geo putting out more power than an FD? (he must have popped a seal lol).
2, why spend the money to ship your car to japan when you could move there and buy a different car?

To be honest, I'll have to recheck on that one. Might have misread things, but my Storm was pulling about 20 hp higher on the Dyno than his. I'll ask him again what his specs were.

Oh, and for all those that don't think a Storm is worthy of being modified. Just ran across this little beauty - http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/263709/4
Scroll down to the little description of Steve Lockett's Storm. Gotta get in touch with him and find out what he did (maybe learn from the greats!) :iceslolan

2, why spend the money to ship your car to japan when you could move there and buy a different car?

Hey! he's offering! Who am I to turn it down? Besides, I like my car. I like the way it handles, and I've put too much work into it already to just say screw it and go with something else.

Sorry for taking so long to get back. I've been mostly working, but I also damaged my car at the track (fixed now). If anyone's interested, I found the chassis code for my car - the Geo Storm "GSI". It's called an I L4.
Something a bit different, I guess - I've been getting more attention from girls at the tracks lately. Not trying to brag, but it's definitely not something I'm used to.
And most of the guys that have been doing quarter miles have been asking me to come hang out with them. What would be a way to shrug them off without being rude? I'm worrying about bigger things right now than just trying to impress people. Most of the guys drive Supras or 350Zs.
Another thing, would it be a good thing to get a rear spoiler for a FWD car? Or should I just leave it without a spoiler? Would it actually help the car any, or is it just for looks?

P.S. Plans have been pushed back for me going back to Japan. Looks like Yuske will be coming over (him and his dad) to visit about four months from now, and then I'll be heading back with them late spring into summer 2005.

And if they ask you say you were sick.

Well, it's not like I haven't said that before. I'm kinda running out of ideas for not showing. I mean, I'll go out and show up just to watch, but every now and then, someone wants to race me. So, what to do? I can tell them I'm not interested in racing and just want to make friends, but it gets old after a while when I keep getting pestered. Oh well. I'll think of something.

As for the situation with the girls, meh. They still won't leave me alone, not that it's a bad thing. It's just, why now? before this, they wouldn't give me a second glance, much less the time of day. Now, they won't leave me alone. I like girls just as much as the next guy, but if this is just for my car, screw that. I don't need some chick stuck on superficial features. If I get a girlfriend, it's going to be because of me, not the car.

oh yea, how can I get oe of those icon pics like yours at the end of your message? the little car dealy? I want one of a Geo Storm, if there IS one.

Thanks!

Peace out,

Okay, little update. When I started looking for my chassis code, I was looking for the GSI code. What I SHOULD have been looking for was the Geo Storm base. The IL 4 is for the Geo Storm GSI. But when I tried looking for the vin number on my car, well.. it was faded, but readable, but I couldn't make sense of it. The code is J8IRF2366M7592515. Am I looking at the right code or have I just discovered something ELSE to look up now?

If you cant see the vin number on the plate in the car then look on the car's title or registration sticker, and i guess the 4rd and 5th numbers would be the begining of the chassis code, i mean mine is like "JM1FC33......" with FC being the start of the chassis code. I dont know since isnt geo american (or is it from isuzu or something :dunno: )

You're looking in the right place. I believe your chassis code would be either RF2 or IRF2 judging by the VIN. RF2 sounds better imho.

Nice car, by the way. Looks a hell of a lot better than my MKIV Jetta. Then again, it's also a WHITE MKIV Jetta covered in mud and dirt from 3 months of hard driving...

As hard as it is to believe, a Geo CAN be fast, and it CAN keep up with the big dogs if you do it right. (Except the 3-banger Metro...but who would race it anyways?)

Well, the holidays kinda hit me pretty hard so I wasn't able to post my chassis code before now. But I DID find the right one and you just confirmed it. So thanks a lot, man. I appreciate it.

On a different note, I've found a shop called 'Sonic Boom' that seems to meet the requirements I look for to improving my car so, I'll be sending my car there for repairs and mods.

Really sorry I haven't been able to get back. I've been a little busy. I like the pictures of your car. I especially like the one with the rising sun - it's awesome.

On another note, I accepted a challenge from one of the students in class. His name's Jason Arvo and he drives a 2004 Mustang. He's really mostly a guy who's all about show and tell. Probably had his parents pay for his car. Anyway, I don't know why he wants to race me, but I guess he wants to prove that he's got something - prove to his friends that he's not just a big showoff. When I first started, he was the one that was dissin' on my car (him and his friends). Don't know what I ever did to him to get that treatment. Anyway, we'll see how it goes down in the end.

Peace,
dboy

P.S. Yuske told me something. "Whether you win or lose, at least you'll learn something." Can't really argue with that.

You like the old Protege? It was spraypainted and pinstriped by the original owner and had gone through many desing changes before the "rising sun" was used. It looked REALLY ugly up close, but it looked kind of nice from afar.

It was also loud due to a big hole in the muffler, and the interior was done up in goth style crap by the previous owner. Not a bad car, but not exactly a good car either.

I bought it for $250 and got $55 for it at the junkyard in May of 2004, right after my High School graduation.

Hey, it's good to hear from you. It's been a while. You wanted to know what kind of Mustang he has, it's a 2004 Mustang, it's a Cobra. As far as I know, the information Mr. Berris gave me, it's a stockengine with 18 inch rims. Suspension work done to it, nothing else engine wise, as far as I know. The color is orange and black. Quite obvious that his parents put money into it. This'll be his 7th car. but anyhow, I'm not going to underestimate him. I can assure you that me & my RF2 will be ready.
P.S. - If you have any info on Ford Mustangs, I'd appreciate you sending it to me.

How was your New Years? The party I went to was okay. But it was better than the ones I visited. So, the car with the rising sun, that was your first car? My roommate saw it and you could have sold it to him for $55. But on the other hand, that white Jetta does look good. Let me know if you've done anything to the car, any modifications? I'm sure you've already read about the challenge that's been issued to me. I mean, I'm not scared, and I'm not going to back down. I see it as a good chance to see if all my practice is paying off. But I will, however, let you and the others know what's going to happen and give me your opinion on what you think about the whole thing. Looking foward to hearing from you.

I'm not too proud to say that it was my first car, but at least it was better than a bike.

My New Years? I broke into my parents' liquor cabinet and had myself a good time with some good friends. Nothing too special.

As for the Jetta, it doesn't have any mods or anything on it because it's my daily driver. I'm focussing more on the new RX-7, since that will be my primary racing car. I hope to get a better exhaust for the rotary soon... it's too quiet. :)

Umm.... let me explain.

the cobra's got 390 hp from a supercharged V8. 0-60 is around 4.8 secs, with a quarter mile usually in the low 13s/ high 12's.

Unless your car is making alot of power, he's gonna rape you.

oh and they don't handle too badly either.

another thing: you can make other threads lol. you should post about your race with the mustang in the street racing section.
