omg its like dejavu lookin at your contour its exactly the same lookin as the 98 my buddy is lookin for toys for cept the rims. Ya he wants a list of parts that are available and who he can get them from , the closest store (alberta canada) would also help greatly. Id suggest a heavier duty clutch and lighter flywheel but we cant find anything for him out here. :( If you know how to help us out it would be much appretiated!

sorry forgot to mention his is a 2.5 24 valve svt engine.
The non svt 2.5L and the svt 2.5L are exactly the same engine for the most part. So anything that will work for the regular 2.5L engine will for the svt 2.5L. Btw, mine is a 96 so the front end is completely different than the 98-2000 svt contour. I have just molded the svt front fascia to my car.
Ok, now on topic. Just about everything you want to buy for the contour is not available at a store unless its some sort of universal product. Most stuff is available online or CEG members have made themselves and are now on the market (i.e. ADC turbo kit, pre 98 and post 98 carbon fiber hoods, any bodykits on ebay or the AndysAutosport body kit, were all created by contour owners and are now sold via other companies) Most people just dont know whats available because its all underground mostly, unless of course they're a member of CEG, then theyve seen it built from the ground up.
A list of the big performance modifications off the top of my head available for the svt contour.
-3.0L engine swap (Very popular mod among the contour enthusiasts)
-Vortech Supercharger Kit
-Arizona Dyno Chip turbo kit (previously Street Flight)
-Exhaust Catbacks (Bassani, Borla, Bosal, Trubendz, etc)
-MSDS headers, Weapon R headers (cheap MSDS knockoffs)
-Loads of intake kits although the K&N RU-3550 with MAF adapter and custom heatshield seems to work best.
-Diamond pistons
-Pauter and Cunningham Connecting Rods
-Cat Cams
-Mondeo ST220 valve springs
-Mustang 65mm throttle body (wouldnt suggest unless have 3.0L). Most people just optimize the one they have.
-Pro M 75mm MAF (wouldnt suggest without a tune)
-Apexi SAFC
The list goes on and on. These were just some of the big ones. Seriously, if you want some good information, check the forums over on www.contour.org and check out the stickied threads at the top of each branch (i.e. Duratec Performance, Aesthetics, etc) and there is a list of modifications.
Oh yeah, and I would recommend a SPEC stage 1 clutch for your friend with a SPEC lightened flywheel.
Websites to buy parts from: www.arizonadynochip.com, www.spmotorsports.com, www.ctamotorsports.com (<--- In canada), www.batinc.net, www.kustomz.com, www.duratecperformance.com. And half the stuff you dont see on these websites, you can find out how to purchase them on contour.org

So most of you contour drivers are makin false svt's with duratecs or vulcans? Cool , His front clip is different than yours I see the difference now. So your sayin I can try to replace some of the contours 2.5 v6 toys with better ones but are the better ones the svt ones , this is confusing to me. Im gonna have him read your thread to give him an idea for askin better questions than I did. I dont own a contour myself but I think there great I drove every model they have with the exception of the european models (mondeo's) which are a bit bigger in body and engine(stock). The svt contour handles like its on rails and pulls some wicked g's in the turns not to mention when you hit 5800rpms it just opens right up and goes toot sweet. Most comfortable rear leather seats I have ever sat in too.

People are swapping the engine with a 3.0L duratec. I wouldnt say false svts, since the svt contour never came with a 3.0L. But the Ford Mondeo ST220...thats a different story. It comes standard with a 3.0L now over in Europe. Of course we have the Mazda 6, Lincoln LS, Jaguar X-type, Jaguar S-type, Taurus, Sable, and Escape which all come with the 3.0L duratec here in the US and came be swapped into a contour. Some take more modifications than others. Its basically just a 2.5L duratec bored .5L bigger. All aftermarket 2.5L and 3.0L V6 parts will fit the svt and non svt. (i.e. headers, intakes, throttle bodies, etc) Externally they are no different. The way svt acheived the extra 25-30 hp (195 in 98, 200 in 99 and 00) is higher compression, extrude honed heads, extrude honed upper intake manifold, larger lower intake manifold, larger throttle body, quasi dual exhaust, etc. All of these parts are interchangable between non svt and svt models, because they are the same engine! The svt is just tweeked more and has better flowing parts. Make sense? The big kick in the pants your feeling is the secondary ports opening up at 3750 rpm's.

I have a 98 non svt Contour. The first mod I bought was a conical air intake off ebay. It made it sound more like a engine and not a quiet little stealthy kitten that leaps onto your lap to scare the crap out of you while you are sleeping on your gf's couch at 1030 at night, but anway. Its easily found on ebay. Search for 98 contour and you'll find one. It sould be labeled Bomz, but I think its just a sticker. It does add an alumium pipe to replace the rubber crap one from Ford. It also gives you a redish color Conical Filter. Go here to see it on my car : www.cardomain.com/id/titanthedragon It will cost around 60 bucks. It is a easy bolt on. This will probably only fit the non svt even though it says svt. The SVT intake pipe would have 4 fittings which this one does not. Non SVT will have 3 fittings which the ebay kit will fit.

The BOMZ kit is not bad for the money, but IMO is still a bit restrictive, just by looking at the MAF adapter. Not to mention, inverted filters like the ones shown have been dyno proven to cause turbulent air, thus a loss in hp. Id recommend the K&N RU-3530, maf adapter from duratecperformance.com, and a homemade heatshield. Thats the most popular intake setup over on CEG.

The polished aluminum intake pipe that replaces the accordian rubber tube can be bought from batinc.net for around $70.

I didn't know inverted filters would actually cause a loss in HP. I am working on a splash guard for the area under my filter, and I was going to extend the sides up slightly. What material did you use for your heat shield? I'm going to make the base out of fiber glass. or should I not use that? I have also been thinking maybe that filter is the cause for my low gas milage that you answered in another post.

If the oil from a open element air filter is oil dressed it may coat your Mass air flow coils and makes it harder for the engine to determine how much air its taking in , the coated coils wont throw a engine code instead it will use default settings which may be lean/rich air fuel ratios and that means a loss of horse power or incomplete burning of fuel. That would cause gas mileage problems as well as the filter simply getting plugged up with crap. They say you can go without cleaning the element for 50,000 miles but I think with every oil change it should be cleaned and redressed also the coils should be gently de-gummed with some iso-alchohol and soft cloth , if its a carb engine it doesnt have that problem.. I played with a oversized airfilter for 2 years now in my grand am , I used a f150 air intake (from a 5.4) for cold air intake.http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/116855BlueMotor.jpg

Heres robs svt engine before we start modding it , Im gonna help him paint it or chrome it when hes ready. He is interested in a turbo and I am interested in finding more aggresive cams and keeping it N/A. I could port the intakes more and perhaps port polish his exhaust ports. Got alot of questions before I get started on that tho. Thanks for the previous advice if you guys have more let me have it!
