I've said it before, the Citroen CX is a fantastic looking car. Not your typical German/Jap/Yank box (Aka a car with the all personality of a public servant).

Don't hate those who innovate!

Ha, I can beat that. My car has a 2.7L I6 that has a 4500 RPM redline, with the little orange line at 4250! Hence why I redline it on every shift once the engine warms up :evillol:

on the other hand maybe you're not used to shapes like these in the US... this classic is considered very beautiful and stylish in Europe not to mention individual...not all big cars have to look like Buicks you know. :nono:

i dunno, the citroen has great resale value (*sarcasm*)

i saw one on Carsales.com.au for $1, and i'm not joking, it's sold now but the guy wanted $1 (i'm suprized it sold for that much)

to the Americans that $1 is in Aussie dollars it's about 75 US cents

I'm going to pretend that you didn't say that- in reference to an 80's model citroen. Yes, that particular body style was over twenty years old in 1987- this does not make it "classic"- anytime, anywhere. I'm sure that it is considered far more pallatable to look at in Europe, but not classy- or classic.
Everyone made mistakes in the 80's- including the french! I've seen alot of really lame Alfas from the 80's, along with probably the most mediocre Ferraris ever made. Jags were horrible then.

In 1987, the Citroen sxwhatever was not considered innovative, either- so don't even try it. It was, at best, exactly what it is now, a French eccentricity.

and it IS ugly.

Eeeeh what? You're off the mark here. Just so that next time you know these CX cars sold very well all over Europe. In fact up until a few years ago they were quite a common site. So NO it was no eccentric failure just because you happen not to like it! Classy? Compared to most executive sedans of the time (Mercedes W123 etc) YES! If you ever saw one parked right next to you your opinion might be different. Of course you're always welcomed not to like it. Classic? Today you can find dedicated CX specialist workshops OUTSIDE of France. If you don't understand the significance of that I'm sorry I can't help you. EITHER WAY talking about Citroens in the ''ugliest'' thread is irrelevant. Let's talk about Dodge Rams!

Ok, Ok. I may see your point-
Kinda.

What I find so unattractive isn't neccessarily the overall design, really. It's in the details; the cheeeeezy hubcaps, and the Chrysler 5th ave. upholstry, the overall cheap-looking design treatments. It all smacks of what so many near-failing european carmakers did during this time (or close to this time); releasing models without sincere redesigns, based upon great early models- but most importantly because they were nearly broke.
(in American slang this means near bankruptcy)

I really kind of dig the SM models, but this model is, well, pretty tacky.
I can tell that you respect these cars, and that must account for something, but really, must you?
In accounting for this car's appeal across Europe, I can say only this- it reminds me of the British club-inspired music that held significant world-wide popularity for a total of about, well, three years or so. Coincidentally, in just about the same period of time that this car was made. I could ride in this car for one night, really, listening to Heaven 17 and Haircut 100, ABC, and the Modern english.

Before I came to my senses.

Looking at some details I might agree with you but don't forget this car came out in the 1970s...
In conclusion........
I'm not really a die-hard Citroen fan but I respect them as an innovative company (remember the ID/DS cars) that managed to be a big player (at least in the European market) while going their own way especially design-wise... and especially in the conservative compulsory- three-boxes executive car market.
