Intense PCM

Finally installed a reprogrammed PCM and I have only two words to describe my first impressions.....IT'S ALIVE! Holy cow.....my car was pretty quick before but now, See ya! This thing kicks ass.
I've wanted a PCM for a long time but couldn't justify the expenditure, especially considering I wanted to keep my factory PCM. Having no personal allegiance to either Intense or DHP, I started browsing the classified section of ClubGP. Bought an Intense Racing - Standard PCM for $129 shipped.
The PCM does a great job of pulling all my other mods together. My other performance mods include:
Thrasher CAI
3.4" Pulley
Ansa Stainless Hi-Flow mufflers
U-bend delete
225/55/17 Yokohama H4S Tires
180 Degree Thermostat
Goodyear Gatorback SC Belt
Autolite 104's

So that big a difference? I have essentially the same mods as you but haven't done the PCM yet. You've convinced me!

How much difference in HP/speed is there? I take it you totally recommend this PCM?

Is there that big of a difference in your opinion with deleting the U bend?

i thought about getting one since INtense lowered their price for one. I think they charge $170. I would also like to keep my stock PCM incase i need it for whatever reason. Did you do a case learn yet?

U bend on its own isn't much (maybe 3-4 whp). But you really need it to support the increased airflow generated by a CAI and smaller pulley.

The DHP and Intense products are very much alike. My decision was motivated by price. There are other brands but these were the only two that I was comfortable with......and that comfort was based upon a great deal of reading and conversation with others that have these products.
I wanted to keep my factory PCM because my car is still under warranty. If I ever need to take it in for repair I will reinstall the factory unit so as to prevent the dealer from reflashing my Intense PCM. It took all of 10 minutes to install the new PCM so this idea should work well. Part of the reason the install is so easy is due to the fact that the Thrasher CAI removes VERY easily. Thanks Thrasher!
I would definitely recommend this product....but then, I'd recommend the DHP too. It all comes down to personal preference and budget.
Don't have speed/HP numbers yet.....other than SOMP dyno (Seat-Of-My-Pants). I want to take it to a dyno but not sure when I'll get around to it. Also need to hit Gateway Raceway to see how my ET and trap speed look. 14.2 was my best prior to this installation.

Could have been like when the only PCM out was by The Grand Prix store and it went for 299.00 plus a core charge :uhoh: I bit the bullet and bought one back then and kept the stock pcm also.Im sure that when I send in my stock one to get re-programed that im stuck with the GPS pcm...no one will even buy it, since it is getting out dated.
If you dont have an aftermarket PCM you really need to invest in one. They do make a nice difference on the butt dyno :grinyes:

Made a great differance in my GTP. You know come to think about it, it's in the car in storage. I have to get down there and switch them out. The GTX is a lot slower then my GTP. BUT not for long.
Thanks guys for waking me up.

Just make sure you get a case learn done after switching it.
