Question on pistons
b18 ls

I'm building a b18b n/a set up (possibly going ls/vtec in future). I had planned on useing balanced Spoon ctr pistons, but I'm starting to hear more good things about JE pistons. Does anyone have experience with either. Also, I don't plan to make more than 195 at the wheels when I'm done, so do I need new connecting rods? Will it be better to have them?
got v-tec?

w/195whp je pistons w/ be extremely reliable. id jsut go with je pistons&eagle rods combo. you can get them together for like $780

I hope you do know its gonna take a bit more work to get 195whp with the LS right?

Yeah I know, thats why I'm kinda leaning toward a ls/vtec set up. I just don't want to sacrifice reliability.

Do sum research on Arias pistons before you completly consider JE.

what happened with ur crower cam setup? i thought u were gonna represent with the NON-vtecs??? well LS/VTEC is still awesome. good luck.
well im probably gonna get a set of PR3 pistons (from 99-00 civic si). they'll fit right on my LS rod w/o any milling done. the ITR and i think the CTR will require the shaving off a lil bit on the LS rods to make them fit

I'm still trying to get as much as I can out of the non/vtec set up, (just to be the underdog) but if I cant get close to 195whp, then I'm going to consider the ls/vtec. I'd much rather keep the no/vtec theme going though. I got my vavle springs and retainers, but I still havn't found a great deal on the 62403's. I'm not working at my second job so, I'm only buying parts if I get crackhead deals on them.
Any way, you said the ctr pistons won't fit right in? So I'll have to get new rods! Thanks for the help.

PR3 pistons u can get for pretty cheap especially if u know someone that works at honda.
b18 ls, u can keep ur LS rods with the CTR pistons. u just need to take em to a machine shop so they can mill the top of the rod a little bit. u need to take the rods and pistons to a machine shop anyways for them to press out the old pistons and put in the new ones.

Actually all you need to do is put the pistons in a vice with the pin oriented vertically and use a standard nail punch and hammer to punch those suckers out. No need to spend all that money at a machine shop, besides most machine shops are over priced and they dont really know what they are doing. they would probably damage ur pistons, just do it urself

well that might work for taking out the pistons, but press n them back in can be tricky. i wouldnt do it myself by using a hammer and a nail punch. u might end up crack n the psiton doing it like that. a good machine shop will heat up the rods so they expand, then they can easily slip the wristpins onto the rods. my local machine shop charges $60 to take out old pistons and put n new ones on ur rods.
