Why do you hate the V6?

See guys alot of you out there say that the V6 (3800) sucks. Well it may compared to the V8 but hey you know that V6s are just as fast if you want them to be. I mean cause if you look at the automakers now they have V6s that will do 200mph's thats CRAZY!

But still, the 1998-2002 firebirds (V6s) can beat any stock 80's and under IROC camaro or Firebird TransAm. Think about that for awhile. But the main reason they can is because thats when the V8s started to reach 200hp.

It's good for economy and insurance rates; but the it won't compare to a V8 that easily. also, the IROCs and such had been detuned to make them more emissions and economy friendly. Now that they have FI though, it's easier to reach those two; even with a larger engine.

No, the mustang would still be a good amount faster...RAM air doesnt do as much as ur thinkin, im assuming ur talking about the better airbox and hood and with both ur gonna increse 10-15 hp at most.

I don't hate em..I think the motor in the V6 firebird will last longer than the V8..At least that's what I have been told by a couple different people.

Also if I am right the 1995 mustang gt (V8) has 215 HP...A 1999 firebird with ram air (V6) has 200 hP

no it has 255hp in the mustang

I believe that year Mustang had a 5.0 with 225hp and 305 lb ft. I raced a stock one in a 98 Grand Prix GT I had leased a while back (It was stock besides a K&N) and lost by a couple of cars. The problem is they get to put 300 lb ft to the ground on the launch and the V6 with 225 lb ft is playing catch up, but...lacking the horsepower to do it. An f-body with a V6 probably weighs 100 lbs less than a Grand Prix (3300 lbs?) but even that won't make up the stangs torque advantage.

As far as one thing that sucks about the V6 is...the fact that they don't sound like a V8 out an aftermarket exhaust. You can put systems on them that sound decent, but you never get that V8 sound. I'm a big fan of the L67 (Supercharged 3800) but I love the 8's more.

yes nicely put...but the 3800 v6 in the 1999 firebird does nto lack in torque at all it has 305 lb ft but only 200 hp which is what kills it.

Well back on topic, the problem with the V6's is it's the low end model of the Firebird. When you try to be fast in a low end model...kinda makes people wonder..."whats the point, just buy the higher end". Also it's kind of like the concept of the SRT-4 Neon...it's still a Neon...a.k.a. girl / homosexual's car...V6 Firebird = Girl car / V8 = Guy car (obviously not applying to people that don't care about speed). That's not necissarily my point of view exactly but I know that's what many people think about it. (read that last sentence again so I don't get attacked!!!) The 3800 series was pretty far behind the competition as far as V6's go as well. Obviously a V6 can be very fast, the GN engine is still faster a lot of sports cars today and that was made over a decade ago, but it was also the high end model, not the low.

I dont hate my V6....Im ready to get a new car, SUV...but it has nothing to do with the engine or how fast/slow the car is! I like it and am very happy with it...but maybe its because im a girl and not into fast cars....

I live the v-6's espically since Buick makes all of the series II 3.8 that are in your cars....

The v-6 is definitely not a shit car, its just a car for people who love the american muscle feel but are to young to afford the insurance on a v-8 as well as people who don't care about speed. And its easy to make a 3800 fast, just throw an exhaust and an intake on the bitch and it will run like hell.

violator6090
10-11-2004, 08:11 PM
better do a bit more than that to make it "run like hell"

I'd rather have the v-6, get the lower ins. rates then bring in the mods...v-8 gets me in trouble...

One question...Does the V6 scream MUSCLE CAR! No! Thats why. But then again most people don't consider the 3rd or 4th gens to be muscle cars.......................just the old farts that like carburators.

someone try to explain this to me. i have a 90 firebird formula. i raced an 89 mustang cobra. i dont know if it was stock or not but it had a nice flams job and deep coat of laquor. we both took off the same but once through the intersection, i noticed him falling behind, and i was only in 1st gear?! he shifted to 2nd and caught up but once i hit 2nd he fell way back there untill i got unto 5th at which point he hit his nos and flew by me, but neways how the hell does this happen? its a cobra against a formula?
