Help!!! I don't know anything about working on a car but want to save money on repair bills. My maintenance required light is on but the car doesn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary. Any suggestions!!! My car is at the 92,000 mile mark!!! any help would be appreciated

I think that light trips after a certain number of miles. Its to remind you that you need to do your scheduled maintenance.

Rmember what the good book says: Don't Panic

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking that exact thing because when I was reading my car manual, I needed to do maintenance at 90,000. Do you know what type of maintenance should be done now other than belts, etc.?

Not off-hand, but it's all there in your owner's manual.

Regardless of how much you decide to get done, at least get the timing belt service done soon.

hey dont worry about this light at all, on my accord this light came up and i found out honda just does this to remind you of maintenance, there is a way to make the light go away (because it is annoying) read in your manual it has something to do with turning off the ignition while holding the select reset button on the dash board, dont remember too good though, just look in the manual for "maintenance req'd" if u cant find it email me i'll tell u step by step.

thanks, I won't worry about it as much but I may go ahead and get at least my belts checked and replaced if necessary. I just want to take great care of my car.

Ok... so not as to confuse the issue...

Replace your timing belt asap. The external accessory belts can be done when you feel is necessary or a mechanic sees a problem. If you don't replace the timing belt and it breaks, you're buying a new engine.

The deal with timing belts is (unless they've been done recently) that you get them REPLACED (along with the water pump and oil seals), not checked. There isn't any way to check an old belt and be sure it won't break the following day.

It's also a good time to get the boots on the axles checked. When they split, you may well not find out until the CV joint is wrecked. (Actually, I check them every time I do an oil change).
