Carbon Fiber Question

I just bought some carbon fiber cloth and some epoxies. I am planning on making a custom cowl for a naca duct. Anyways I was wondering what type of material I should use for the mold that I will be laying the fiber cloth over so that the epoxie wont bond the cloth to the mold. Also to get the smooth shiny look on the outer layer of the carbon fiber do I just add a layer of the epoxy to the outside to achieve this or something else. Any info would be great or a good point in the right direction. Thanks!

you have to get all the air out of it to make it strong, by using like one of those space saver vacuum deals. then you have to bake it.

You can also use a squigee to get the air out. But any info on mold materials and that shiny top layer?

The naca duct im getting can be found at www.carbontrix.com . I was just going to make a carbon fiber cowl duct to add onto the NACA duct (force a little more air onto my new short ram intake). I actually found out what I needed though. You have to use a silicon spray on your mold so the resin will not bond the carbon fiber fabric to the mold. Also the topcoat needs to be a UV protected automotive laquer (sp).

jus buy the damn things.... that company is a real good company and has quality shit.. bring it to a shop.. let em cut your bumper/ hood and be done with it
c/f is a tricky material.. if you dont even know teh basics of fiberglassing.. dont even go near c/f

yeah, you can also use waxpaper if your using a top mold, i've heard of people using popcicle sticks and a glue gun to make their mold, and useds old pantyhose, or ceranwrap to cast the shape they want. nisco's right, its not the easyest stuff to play with, i'd refine your skills with fiberglass first.

I AM going tobuy the duct from carbon trix, i just basicaly want to make a cowl for it to get more air in. Im going to keep the bends simple, no complex 3 axis bends just a simple cowl. It will probably take a few tries to get it right but its ok. For 50 bucks on ebay i got enough dual weave carbon fiber fabric and unidirectional cf fabric and the resins/epoxies to make about 5 of um. So hopefully one out of five will turn out =)
