i am looking for a new engine and was wondering what the best one would be for a 96 ls? and which one would fit the best?

Too many to list man, you could either go ls/vtec which would keep the stock block and just change the head on the motor. Or you could go out and get either a b18c1 from a gsr or go all gung ho and get a b18c5 from an itr or a b16 from a civic sir, or other than that maybe an h22 prelude motor, or an f20b from a euro accord, or maybe just bolt on a jackson racing supercharger or if you really want to make some power strip down the old motor put low compression pistons beefy internals do some head work and turbo that biatch. Any way you chose to go it'll be expensive for the most part with the exception of the lv/vtec.

If you want all motor...b18c5 is the way to go or GSR.
I'd keep your LS motor for turbo or get a gsr and turbo that to.

If your keeping your car and just putting a new motor. I'd go with the GS-R b18c. You can change out the cams and pistons it will be the same thing, but less money. I guess the itr head will have a little better air flow, but that won't make much of a diff. At least not when you consider the price diff.
If you decide to go ls/vtec, please ensure you have a good mechanic who has done this swap plenty of times, and don't forget to build up the bottom end. Good luck.

I don't know how much your bugdet is, but you could also consider geting a spoon balanced engine. This would be the best. Most will tell you that spoon is overated, but you can't beat oem quality combined with spoon performance...fISH

NO! Spoon engines is not worth it man. They're only made for track only anways. You can build a much better motor than that.

i have about 2 or 3 grand, im not looking for anything real fast. i was either thinking of going with the type r or the ls\vtec. but i already have some mods and i dont think they will fit on a type r.

Turbo it, build your own turbo kit. Just put some money on beefing up the innards and get the rest of the stuff I mean you could easily get a turbocharged car up and running really quick for 3k if you do all the work yourself.

I rather get the GSR motor and build it. If you want a fast stock motor and not do too much work on it. Then a type R is a perfect choice. LS vtec has to be done right. I would find a reputable shop to do it.

i have one question that no one has mentioned in this post and that is why not rebuild the type-r engine? or would the engine be faster rebuilding an ls engine to ls/vtec or gsr engine?

Ok if you're talkin about all motor...
LSvtec engine - requires more work and have to be built right. IMO i would let a reputable shop do this.
GSR- The motor usually cost anywhere in between 2500-3200 vs. the type R 4000-4900. You can take that extra 1000-1700+ and get aftermarket parts for the GSR. It'll be much faster than a type R. Even though the Type R head flows better, still the price is kinda steep. I would get it if you're plan on keeping it stock for a good while.

I have to agree. The Type R as a car is much better than the GS-R, but engine by itself. Big whoop. You can put a little money into a GS-R and get the same results for a fraction of the "R's" price. As said above, the "R" will have better air flow, but again, big whoop!

then why not just port polish the gsr head? would that not give it air flow like the type r? and a port polish is like $100

Type R head is better designed. It already comes mild port and polished.
