cone filter, good or bad?

hi,

just curious if a cone filter would be good on a Pa SC 92

i got one in my garage... i took out the little gril in front of the TPS that seems to make more air resistance than anything else... and now i am curious about adding a cone high flow filter..

i heard somewhere that if you add that you CAN get better fuel mileage.. and performance of course...oh and hear the whining SC which is kinda cool too :naughty:

ok , well the cone filter is good, however you have to rig up the AIR temp sensor in the intake trac. Now, if you want more HP and mileage if you notice when you look at the Throttle body, there is a screen looking thing in there.. If you remove that screen you will see a nice difference in performance and mileage. However, on some cars it causes the cars to run rough at idle. On mine it runs awsome. I mean even if you get a slight idle roughness, the power gain makes it all worth it. you can remove it but taking the c-clip out and then the screen comes off. let me know how it turns out!

well, just installed that cone filter and remove the screen you spoke of.. you're right it does idle a bit rougher but hey.. that baby screams!!!

as for the temp sensor.. i still didn't get it in..i put it right next to the filter with some very tight tape on it to protect it from corrosion ( you see the sensor so.. beter protect it).. logically, since this is a temperature sensor thats senses the intake temp of the air going in, putting it just beside the filter will do exactly the same, since you got holes there and the lights and when you drive the carn the wind/air comes in on the filter and sensor.. so the car can't get a bad reading right? besides,this is hard to install on a 3 inch ABS tube :)

well the difference wont be too bad without the IAT(in place), but you should try to get it installed ASAP

what problem can come by this not being in the air intake? the air the filter sucks has the same temperature as beside the filter..right? i didn't remove it from the wire.. it's still plugged in and very well protected :)

I bet it screams alot better right...Almost sounds like it has a has a nice cam in there... hehehe.. anyways you will get a bogus reading cuase the heat from the motor will be around it and it will lean out cause its thinks it 180 degrees outside.. It has to be installed in the trac.. drill that ABS tube and get it in there. But that screen is Bull$hit. GM's way to restrict your power.. Screw Emmission!

i can drill a hole but it won't hold in there.. it's made to clip in a thin plastic wall..abs is kinda thick.. i wonder how can i make it hold there.
unless i glue it from the little foam on it.

I would think that the copper colored silcone gasket sealant would do the trick. Just get it in position, and put the sealant in place and leave it alone for a while till it sets.
