Check if the clutch fluid is low.
The clutch fluid resovoir is near the brake booster on the driver's side portion of the firewall.

First, check to see if there is fluid leaking from the slave cylinder. If it is, change it out and bleed it.
If it is not, then the problem lies in the clutch master cylinder.
Since you stated that you are trying to remove the master cylinder, I will assume that you have already checked this.
Been a while, but if I remember correctly, there should be a steel line running from the master down the side of the frame. There is a hose that connects the steel line to the slave. The swivel on the hose is at the steel line. You will have to remove it there. The hose will come out with the slave.

True, but before you start ripping out parts how about just checking the fluid level.

Ah, ok, it's often the small things that are overlooked.
Just making sure.
