Broken seat latch

I have the Bentley service manual for my 1997 328ic but it says nothing about how to take the seat apart. The lever moves up and down but does not release the latch. It is impossible to get into the back seat of a two-door without moving the seat back forward!!!

Anybody taken this apart or have instructions on how to do it?
