Timing Belt Question on a 4cyl

I tried searching but didnt see what I was wondering. My GF has a 98 camry with the 4cyl motor. It has almost 100,000 miles on it. I dont think the timing belt has ever been changed. If it should break how much damage does it do to the motor.

That is absolutely untrue. These engines are non interference engines meaning they would more than likely come through with no damage. Mine broke at 141 thousand miles and came through with zero damage. My engine is perfect. You could get stuck somewhere if it breaks, because where ever it happens you have to be towed.

I don't know about a 98 Camry but most Toyota motors are not interference engines so the motor would just stop on you with any damage. Go ahead and have the belt and the waterpump replaced at the same time.

Thanks Guys!!! I was hoping that was the case. I was getting nervous about the mileage being so high. She really likes the car and I would hate for it to ruin it if it did break. I was thinking about putting it in the shop and have that and the shocks and struts done. Didnt think about the water pump. Thanks for that. I will add that to the list of things to do.
