ok guys first is first. dont jump down my throat beings im a complete newbie to the rotary engine but i am willing to learn. i have looked a few sites and did a couple searches on here and found a lot of useful info on the rx7 but alot on the 3rd generation.
im lookin for more info on the second generation. i plan on buying a 87' rx7 non-turbo (this model is called the FC correct...?) ok...reason for the non-turbo is i plan on swapping motors in my n/a 300zx over the winter so i need something more reliable and cheaper and more of a daily driver to get me through winter. i know that they are rear-wheel drive but does the 2nd gen have LSD. also, do you guys think it will be able to start and run fine in cold weather or what not? not too bad of snow where i live so im not too worried about drivability. but i am more concerned with it starting and running fine in cold weather. (my Z doesnt like the cold at all)
also, im not a complete newbie to engines, as some of you may know the vg30de(tt) in the 300zx is not an easy engine to work on so i think i should be able to conquer the 13B with a little research.
i was reading in a couple of posts about a supercharger kit for the n/a 2nd gen. i did a little research and i came up with a camden supercharger that bumps it up 150 some odd HP with stock injectors but it also like $5000. is there anything cheaper? i want to turn my winter rx7 into a drift car by the following winter.
any sites or info will help me a ton. thanks for any replys and info in advance. also, thanks for reading my very long post. sorry.

The gxls and turbos came stock with lsd and most if not all fcs came with a subzero starting system. And as far as the supercharger goes the 150 hps is using stock injectors upgrading injectors fuel pressure regulator and a fuel system monitor can gain much more hp from the supercharger upgrade, although you may want to look into buying a turbo2 instead of a n/a fc because the transmision on the t2 is stronger and is capable of making more power then the n/a with the supercharger. The first gen rx7 is called a fb (I think), 2nd gen fc3s, 3rd gen fd3s the 2nd and 3rd gens are based on the chaisis code I can never remember the code that was used primarily on the 1st gen. I have no problems with cold starts or running with my gxl and didnt have problems with my t2 even in temps at near 0. The fc is a good platform to drift with but it takes more then power to make a good drift car you should look at suspension upgrades, and tires along with engine perfomance.

thanks for the info...yeah i know all about what it takes to make a good drift car and i was pretty sure the fc3s would be a good start. the only reason that keeps me from getting the turbo II is the fact that i cant find one that is in my price range in my area.
so say in the distant future i decide to supercharge my fc, would the turbo II tranny bolt up to the n/a engine? or would a turbo II motor/tranny swap be a better idea? or while we or on the subject how much customization would it take to drop the FD powertrain in the FC chassis? are there any JDM options (with most nissans you can swap in JDM powertrains because japan usually got nissan's more powerful and potent engines)???
also...does anyone know of a good upgrade chart for the RX7??? or any sites for good performance parts for the 2nd gen?

Your better off with the t2 engine swap if your going to change the engine rotaryreserection has a good walk through on it. There are jdm 13bts out there they normaly run for 1500- 3000 with engine trany and wiring harnes. I would stick with the usdm 13bt rather then the jdm 13bt theres not as much in that swap. I think rotaryreserection has the walk through with the 13brew but your better off with the 13bt beacuse of less modding and you can make a good amount of power out of the s4 or s5 engine. If your taking it to the extreme with power then you might want to go with dowling on your houseings to keep the engine from flexing with high hp out puts (450+) I think the 13brew is capable of producing 600 hp because mazda saw the flexing problem and solved it with added dowls.

no im not looking for that much horsepower beings i have another project dedicatedmto big numbers. i am looking for more of a sleeper type quick car that is an ideal dorifto. im looking probably around the 250-275 mark. so your saying i should just swap in a low mileage turboII motor and tranny and start upgrading that???

Yes if your not into buying a t2 then I would definatly do the engine swap becuase with a few upgrades you'll be in the hp range your wanting.
