hmm, i have really just discovered many of the sections in here, i thought this section would just be about collectiong and showing off di-cast models, but this is much cooler. in my collection i have a collectable ford starliner (im not touchin it!), a maestro ferrari f50 which i can modify if i want, and the model that i will be modifing, a cheaply painted but fairly well constructed '40 ford panel van, its painted (all of the exterior) in gold with a few decals, even the headlights are gold, its a 1;24 scale i think and it is in need of spiffing up :P, sorry for the lack of pics but i dotn have a camera and my new camera (a totally cool 5.1mp) is coming at christmas, but anyway herer is a pic of what the car is at least to give you an idea, now just visualise everything covered in a cheesy gold paint.

edit: i will be getting a better model to modify once i can get some spare cash collected, right now this is the best i got, but its goors dont even open, its interior is fair so maybe thats an area for moddingand the rear door. I promise to borrow a camera and keep you updated.

1/24 right? I say make a party van, carpet the interior, and do some kinda theme, like a disco ball or something. Gotta open some doors too.

cool, i didnt see it in the tuts. but do you know how to remove the wheels from the axels? oh wait, they are just gluedin, luckily everything has been really shoddily glued together so its all coming apart really easily, and the major body parts were held together by a total of 5 screws so happy days!ive gotta work out how to hinge these doors, ill put in some strobe light led's and some sexy carpeting :p hehe, i can take a movie when im done and post it up.

** UPDATE **
i have now placed the majority of components in a brake fluid bath, tomorrow i will be purchasing a comtainer of oven cleaner or csc stuff, what would you reccomend btw in spray paints, should i continue using the same paints that i used for regular ar moddeling or should i go for the spray paints designed to be used as touch ups for 1:1 cars. This is gonna be a pretty cool project car IMHO.

well here it is, i foudn the camera that i am storing away for christmas (dont worry i am allowed to test it but just for today) i have at this point in time soaked it in an overnight brake fluid bath, by the looks of it after i have lightly sanded it it needs a few more hours, 90% of the gold paint is still there however it is coming off. what you see here is just after i cleaned it up after the bath, more pics to come.
(ps. yes i have very messy but efficient glueing habits with spudguns)

If your trying to strip off the paint just use paint stripper, it'll take minutes instead of hours. And for spray paint, it depends the look you want, I prefer Engine Enamel paint, just because it has a nice feeling texture and looks great with some clear coat. But you can always just get some WallyWorld rattle cans, just as good.

well yeah, but i dodnt have any paint stripper avaliable, but i had plenty of BF. i will be using csc and stripper next time. I have acetone but i didnt feel confident enough to use it, i didnt know what it would do.

If it's a metal model, it'll just eat the paint, then hose it off then scrape or sand of the reamaining.
If it's plastic, use nail polish remover w/o acetone.
