Please excuse me for the stupid ? I'm about to ask, but Im new to real engines (V8s).

My question is:

Is there a true difference between say a 302/351/428/460 (any V8)
engine thats in a car and a V8 of the same CID in a truck.

Is the car engine built for a light weight vehicle specifically?

If I swap the car engine directly into a truck will the extra weight
damage or bind/bog the internals of the car engine?

Is the car engine built to different specs, with different internals,
such as i.e. a Chromoly Crank instead of say a Cast Iron?


OR

Can the entire engine be swapped with no changes to the engine?


Reason I ask is because I was looking for possible engines to swap into a 1960 F100, and I came across some turnkey engines that were seperated by either for swap into CAR or Truck. They were the same blocks but the ones for the trucks had slight more Troque and some were strokers.

Generally, there are not significant internal differences within the same engine size. However, there are often differences in cam profiles, and intakes (but not always), and almost always in the oil pan, oil pickup area as trucks are decidedly different than cars in most cases.

Older trucks are really not all that much heavier then the larger cars, so there would be no real reason for changes just due to vehicle weight.

The larger engines were more common in trucks because of towing more than anything else.

If you are mulling over the 351/460 question, go 460! Same fuel consumption (very close) and twice the useable power.

But I have yet another ?

I would like to rebuild this 1960 F100 as custom restoration. I basically want the truck as is and was when my grandfather's father bought it,Red on White.

But with some custom upgrades, such as IFS, airbags (maybe), custom tailgate and taillights and maybe some Torgue Thrust II rims. Oh and a upgrade from that I6 to a V8.

The thing is I am partial to cars and there handling (I like takin the turns at high speeds while at the same time I also like a smooth ride) but I would also like to have the power of a 351/428/460.

The question is if I put something like a 460 in this truck how much weight will I be looking at adding, and how will this effect the handling ?

The mass of a 460 as compared to a stock 302/351 would add about 100-150# to the vehicle, not exactly something that needs to be worried about.
