self bore

i was wondering if it was possible to bore out my throttle body and intake manifold . im not sure if you can but if so would it be better to just buy a new tb and im but if u can how do you do it

I wouldn't mess with it. Take it to a local machine shop. They should do it for around 50 bucks. What motor do you have?

you cant really bore out a throttle body enough to make any large airflow difference since the metal where the intake from the airfilter comes in is usually onle a few mm thick...how ever you can port and polish the intake manifold....best Mellowboy is right, take it to a machien shop..but if that is too much of a pain in the ass...go down to the junk yard and get a manifold that will fit on your car...then get a griner set...like the little cone grinders that come with dremels and grind away..just dont make the metal too thin...smooth out any rough corners...if there is anywere on the manifold that you think you mught grind throught i suggest puting welds on it to keep from going through as patching up with sheet steel is a pain... poilish the manifold up untill your injecor ports...after injectors there is fule in the mixture and the non anodised fule will get caught in the pores of the metal and make it slick alowing for more flow then just polishing...but the difference is very minimal...you can also polish and port exaust manifolds but its better to just go buy some new headers that are going to flow easyer and in the end make more power than what you can do with your dremel and polishing compound.... i have also seen people make their own intake manifolds...some ran like ass and other you could feel an improvement...my suggestion, if making your own, is to fine a manifold that is made by say eddlebrock and use the same runner lenght and tube diameter since the edlebrock manifold has been tuned to that engine...

i disagree, i have bored out my throttle body (94 saturn 1.9L DOHC) by hand and know several other saturn owners who have. some feel a difference, some don't, i do. by itself you may not see an gains, with a short ram or CAI, then it has potential. nothing major, but it will give a little more kick. you will gain power at higher RPMs, but lose some low-end torque. i didn't touch the manifold, but i plan to when i rebuild my engine

It could be done, but it would depend on the construction of it. It might be pretty easy with something like a hand cylinder hone, I'm not sure how else you'd do it.

Oh, and chances are, opening the TB will probably make it slower, so don't bother.

unless your boosted, a bigger TB really isnt worth it. . .

It depends on the set up. 64mm is perfect for all motor along with upgraded cams, intake manifold and intake.

personally id bore out the Tb and intake mani myself just cuz my dad owns a machine shop in hebron, ohio and they said that although they will bore shit out and do machine work for cars its not the best job. And for the little amount of work u have to do to port out ur own TB it shouldnt matter cuz ull just waste 100 bucks if u take it to a shop. Its not easy to fuck up either so u can do it with a dremel if ur smart about it.
