rubber hose from intake

I have another question... the little rubber hose that connects the engine???? to the air intake was in need of replacement. my uncle cut a new piece from a hose he had and placed it in. the old piece fell on the right hand side near the battery.... my uncle said it would fall through to the ground when i drive, he said it wont harm anything because the belts are on the left??? is this true??? thanks once again for the other responses...

If you can see it, try to take it out. Otherwise you will be fine. I cant count the number of bolts that I have dropped in random places in the engine, no problems from that.
