does any one know how (if it is possible) to remove a resonator in an Apex catback exaust (i have a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST)

I'm sure you can....just cut the pipe before the resonator, cut the pipe after the resonantor, and weld in a piece of straight pipe in its place. I'm not sure if you would want to do this to an Apex exhaust....but it's your carll. Any muffler shop should be able to do this for $20-30 in labor.

I really dont see a reason to do this.. it does not hurt performance that much that you should remove it. Just make sure a muffler shop does not weld in a smaller diameter pipe for the resonator, if they do that will be worse than the way it is now.

yeah i thought about cutting it but i dont know if i wanna do that to a $600+ dollar system. i just want it to be a little louder because i want to get my moneys worth and im not gonna cut off the muffler and put some cheap loud peice of shit on it because b/c i have seen on websites where the muffler that comes on my system is 400 dollars and that would be stupid to do. there isnt any way to knock it out lol?

Leave it as it is IMO. Did your muffler come with a silencer, if so take that out.

If you pull the resonator(s) it will give it more of a screaming sound, if you keep it in it's more of a lower pitched roar, but watchout i do believe it's illegal and will not pass inspection... I pulled both on my 3rd gen eclipse, sounds awesome...

When you are concerned about getting your money's worth, I would expect that you want to get the gains in power that come with it, not a little more noise. That was an aweful lot of money spent if you just wanted to make the car louder ;)

do you have the stock cat still in the car? or better yet the stock downpipe and cat? if so remove the cat and replace it with a test pipe and it should be louder! why do you want it louder in the first place? annoy cops and get a ticket is what your askin for! :p

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 12:37 PM
Backseatjesus how did you take it out??? i gutted the cat i know thats illegal shhhhhh

GTPSPEED

first why pay 600+ for an exhaust when you can have a shop make pipes, and buy a muffler, for for like 300 i had mine pulled out and its still very deep and not any louder than any other car with a catback, and i dont think its illegal cuz the shop i went to said if i didnt like it they could easly put it back in,and i paid 290,not apex but magnaflow and mine sound awsome,i dont know just my opinion

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 02:05 PM
because i want a nice exaust not some peice of junk that has been welded together in 10 different places and then you pay 300 dollars and it sounds like crap

GTPSPEED
09-30-2004, 02:35 PM
hahaha ok dude but alot of people on here have done the same as me and i bet they would disagree, and i bet mine will sound just like yours hahaha

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 05:47 PM
hahaha i bet not, peices put together over 3" N1 Apex catback exaust??? no

Partizan
09-30-2004, 07:01 PM
Yeah cuz Apex'i use a special material for they're pipes that u can't get in shops... its coated in fairy dust. You might as well have just bought the muffler and had the shop bend some pipes for you and had the same exhaust basically and an extra $300 in your pocket.

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 07:05 PM
yeah pipes that will rust at the welds and corrode no thanks

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 07:07 PM
yeah and spend 300+ dollars on the muffler, then get the pipes made at a shop for around 300, 300+300=600 good job

Dude, there's nothing wrong with having a muffler shop bend some 3" piping for you. I had my local muffler shop do this for me and then I bought a 120 dollar muffler. It looks wicked-awesome and sounds like a mo-fo. Total cost= $220- Had it done over a year ago and looks and sounds like it did the day I had it done. Don't get mad at us logical buyers just because you bought a $600 exhaust & don't think it sounds 100% up to your par. :2cents:

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 08:08 PM
i never said there was n e thing wrong with it "dude" and dont get mad just because i have something better than you do (better quality) and i never said it wasnt up to par either just because i would like it a little louder for my taste but its ok how it is. and im very pround that you had a muffler shop bend some pipe for you good job!

Partizan
09-30-2004, 08:09 PM
Ok, your N1 muffler can be bought for $200 (for example on overboost store which is somewhat overpriced, you can get it for cheaper it is $202.02) and your shop will charge you about a 100 bucks to 150. So we come to about 300-350 dollars. Don't get upset because you payed double what a lot of us did, we got the same quality as you but cheaper, just learn from it for next time. Also the N1 is already pretty buzzy, why wouldnt you want it even louder?

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 08:16 PM
well according to bostonjoe98gs it costs 300 to get it made so i went off his price and 300+300=600 so dont get mad at me because im not cheap and dont want the best quality for my car, and no its not buzzy because i have a GST turbo engines dont sound like a freakin weed wacker

Partizan
09-30-2004, 08:40 PM
Thanks for letting me know what your engine sounds like because my GSX engine sounds completely different. :loser:. You have fun wasting money while I get the same quality, for less, and am able to put that money towards more performance parts. But good to know about that GST engine, I might swap it into my GSX. :naughty:

you go to a shop and get them to bend it for you it will only have 2 welds. one connecting to the muffler and one connecting the flange to hook onto your stock cat. your apexi has just as many welds and it being chrome doesnt help anything. some people like to spend extra money for name brand but it really doesnt make a difference.

btw you sound like a ricer since you just want it to be louder. try buying a honda next time

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 09:40 PM
yeah well obviously u dont have a GSX because if you did then you would know that a turbo motor wont be buzzy like u say it is because turbo motors dont do that loser! they arent loud like non turbo motors but good try. o wow the engines are a WHOLE lot different arent they except they have the same power and every thing just yours is AWD or so u claim good one buddy

1stGenRocks
09-30-2004, 09:43 PM
lmfao would someone please ban blackeclipse or at least lock this thread.

blackeclipse97 with the right exhaust ANY car can be buzzy. turbo or not

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 09:47 PM
o can it really??? i forgot u know everything and all of the other websites and stuff i have been to and the people i have asked dont. no ur dumb

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 09:59 PM
and 1stgen you will have more than 2 welds unless its only one peice??? but mine is three

1stGenRocks
09-30-2004, 10:01 PM
blackeclipse97 shut the hell up. you have 34 posts and half of them are this bullshit with you beiong pissed cuz yopu bought a $600 exhaust instead of something cheaper. the other half are you asking about crankwalk. neither of those threads needed made since there is plenty of information here about them.
i dont claim to know everything but i do know that every car will sound different and that you can make any car sound like shit if you try hard enough.

1stGenRocks
09-30-2004, 10:02 PM
lmfao you can get a muffler shop to bend you a single piece so a 150 plus muffler exhaust will be better then yours with less welds. you lose by your one arguement

BlackEclipse97
09-30-2004, 10:10 PM
shut the fuck up dude if u wouldnt piss people off like u are, then there wouldnt be so many bullshit posts now would their? so shut the hell up and dont come in my thread and start talking shit because thats not what its suppose to be for! ill be the adult in this one unlike u can be and just not argue with you through a computer about sumthing so stupid about u trying to act like u know every thing cuz thats really fucking annoying when some one does that so peace!

1stGenRocks
09-30-2004, 10:13 PM
lol all i did was state facts that (almost)everybody here knows

EclipseRST
09-30-2004, 10:19 PM
ok both of you shut the fuck up and take it to the PM's... there is no need to argue about this, you can get a really nice exhaust for less than $6oo! whether you weld 10 pieces together or bolt 3 pieces together its goin to work the same! if your goin for sound, EXPERIMENT! this thread is done.
